1. Vala is getting spayed today. Which means I had to take her food and water away before I went to bed. She was very very cuddly over night, and very very unhappy with me this morning. She kept trying to climb up to the counter when I was making breakfast because she could hear running water. I blocked those attempts, so she decided to climb me instead. Then, when we were finally ready to go, I got outside and suddenly discovered that I hadn't properly latched one of the doors on her carrier, so she made a near escape and I almost had a heart attack. But I did finally get her to the vet. I'm sure she's going to be really happy with me when I pick her up tonight.
2. I heart my Thursday night shows.
The Vampire Diaries-
what I really love about this show is how much it's about women and women's relationships with each other. Yes, the Stefan/Elena romance is a huge part of it, the boys get plenty to do too. But we never fail to get some kind of focus on the women as well, and it only sometimes has to do with the boys. I mean, last night alone had major, heart breaking scenes between Caroline and Liz, good scenes between Caroline and Bonnie, long overdue discussions between Elena and Bonnie, and even Elena's relationship with Aunt Jenna was highlighted, though their interactions weren't as plentiful as they sometimes are.
Plus, Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline save Stefan! Love.
And I love how hard this show can knock me on my ass. It wasn't enough to kill off a somewhat major character (bye bye Mason, you were pretty with your shirt off). Then we had to have that scene with Jenna. When Katherine started taunting Elena about Jenna, and you could see Jenna in the background, out of focus, raising the knife, I screamed. Literally screamed. And then she stabbed herself and...and...and...I'm so glad she's going to be OK, but let's face it, on this show that wasn't a guarantee. And then we still weren't done! The Stefan/Elena breakup was really well done, and kudos to the actors. I also applaud them for not having the girl be the only one emotional about it, and for not treating Stefan's tears as something unmanly he should be ashamed of. And I swear, if Katherine's plan works and Tyler kills Matt...maybe Jeremy will figure it out and somehow trick Matt into wearing the resurrection ring? 'Cuz you know Tyler's going to turn, so he obviously has to kill someone, and I'm not sure there's anyone left on the cast that I can bear to lose.
Nikita-
it's still not great, but I feel like it's making progress. And, to be fair, the first half of Vampire Diaries season 1 didn't really bowl me over either. I still have hope it's just going to keep improving. Tonight had some genuinely surprising moments in it for me. 1- Owen didn't die. Good, he's hot. What, I can be shallow, OK? 2- Nikita's role in the death of Alex's parents wasn't dragged on, and Alex already knows about it. So no bullshit "Alex turns on Nikita after discovering the truth" storyline later on.
I was a little disappointed Alex's badass escape was 'allowed', but I don't think it completely negates the fact that she did it. At the time, she fully believed her life was in danger, and she rescued herself. The peanut gallery watching the interrogation amused me. Percy being "Shhh, I'm trying to watch!" like it was a movie plays into his character in an interesting way. He's not menacing. They aren't trying to make him menacing, which I think is a smart move. He's a politician who knows how to play the game. He's dangerous because he doesn't have any empathy. He can calmly watch the torture of a young girl and act like he's watching the newest summer action flick, because they illicit the same emotions. We already knew Amanda was cold, but this showed just how cold Percy is too, albeit in a different way.
And- "Do you have any idea how hard it is to have a conversation with you?" I guess they had to make Owen the assassin of Nikita's old boy toy just to try and squelch any romantic tension so she can continue to have a love/hate thing with Michael.
3. Don't you love weird, crossover dreams? Try to keep up with the one I had last night-
OK, so there's a whole massive group of people from, like, every scifi show I've ever watched, and they're on the Enterprise, and they have to save the world, but they need River Song to do it. But specifically River Song after the Library because they need something only she knows and she doesn't know it before then (my brain never came up with a more detailed explanation, BTW). So then the cylons are like "We can build her a body that looks just like her old one!", and the Stargate people are like "We have nano bots that can accelerate the maturing process so we can have a finished body in days!" (do they have that tech? IDK, my dream decided they should). And Lacy was all "I have two digital best friends who like swords who can go down and find her in the digital world!" (no explanation on how she has Zoe and Tamara, she just did). And then Spock said something overly literal and Uhura and Amy giggled and made fun of him, and Captain Jack and Kirk were off in a corner flirting, and I sort of woke up after that.
I sometimes wonder if I do drugs before bed and just never remember.
