Ah, the pace of work is back to what it was before the Biggest Project upended things over the previous four weeks. I still have work to do, but it doesn't threaten to feel overwhelming. The next stress bubble will be my work trip in early December, which I need to plan, I'll probably set that up today. I need to pick clothes to bring along, and make sure they still fit OK. I'm fitting OK in some of the pre-pandemic clothes I've been wearing.
I stretched this morning, ran 3 miles. Keeping up with chores. Seeing a film with Moose this evening. Probably lifting weights tomorrow morning. Etc. Taking Friday off still looks doable. Still collecting RSVPs for Game Day.
In my own corner on Twitter I've noticed nothing at all different since the Musk takeover. I can still watch all my chosen amateur porn stars do their thing in chronological order with no algorithm stuffing my feed.
Over 23 million people in the US had voted early as of last night -- one more week until this midterm season is over. Shortly after that, the 2024 Presidential Season will begin. Sigh.
My bank is paying real interest on savings accounts again, 2.75%, so now I'm moving some of my emergency cash from checking into savings. The Federal Reserve is expected to hike the overnight rate for banks another 0.75% this week to 3.83%. I may try to lock in some higher interest rates via CDs next year, but I don't think interest rates are topping out yet. Futures markets think they'll top out next spring just under 5%. As interest rates are still lower than inflation, and inflation is still over 8%, I think we've got more upside to interest rates.
I'm looking at buying a new Apple laptop. My current model is coming up on its 8th birthday this winter. It still works well enough for my limited purposes, but as I'm old-fashioned about wanting to store lots of things on the hard drive, the 1TB hard drive is getting too close to full. Also, the new M2 chipset should be much better for gaming than the old Intel "integrated" graphics. I was looking at the new MacBook Air, until I saw that IT HAS NO COOLING FAN WTF. It sells itself as being quieter without a fan, but the reality is that it reduces performance to avoid overheating. So, I'm back to looking at a new MacBook Pro. I want to max the RAM and SSD -- oh good, it still has a headphone jack! I'll buy it from Amazon to take advantage of an 18-month 0% payment plan, but the delivery window is currently while I'm in Portland, so I'll order it later for when I get back. After transferring stuff to the new laptop, I'll probably park the old laptop at the condo so I won't have to carry one back and forth. I'll still have T's old laptop at the house as a backup.
OK, back to work, lunch break over :-)
