Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a group of wild, free, fabulous women who happened to have children. Regular playgroups and child-oriented gatherings were too confining to these mamas. So they took their kids to their art studios, hiked in the rain, ate pancakes for dinner and gradually found one another.
The HipMamas gathered, and shared tie-dye and geeky toys and birth stories and ring sling patterns and babysat cooperatively and ate organic pretzels accompanied by microbrews and played pirate games and breastfed brazenly and discovered that motherhood was really a valuable, viable and vital career choice. I myself was one of these mamas back in California, and now I find myself in a part of the country where our habits aren't very well-known.
I'm hangin' with the
KCAP sistas and some
UU and
Mothering mamas, but I know there are more of you geeky, freaky, cheeky moms out there.
We've got a weekly playgroup going. Please comment here if you'd like to join us, and feel free to pass the word on.
