Jim had managed to slip away from the house - not that it was all that difficult in the first place - and decided to wander around the streets of Mizusato.

Karen, his beloved family member and crocodile, was sleeping back at the household with Asuka. He would've stayed behind to enjoy Asuka's company, but she seemed tired from her job, so Jim opted to explore a little - maybe pick up some meat for dinner - before heading back to start dinner preparations with Judai.

He reached the market vendors, and after trading off some coins for some meat - Jim still needed to thank Niko for those money lessons - he started to head off back to the house.

Until he spotted a dog with a luminous, deep blue coat.

Jim bent down, a chunk of meat in his outstretched hand as he whistled softly. "Wow, aren't you a beauty."

Blue officially liked this village, obligingly trotting over as more food was offered, ears tilted forward at this new human. It didn't hurt that he complimented her either.

Nose flaring and eyes taking in the mans' dress (especially the hat- the thing was one of the larger that she'd ever seen) she blinked as the smell of lizard hit her. Confused, but not put off by it she calmly sat down before daintily taking the offered food between her front teeth.

It didn't take long before it was gone, Blue licking her chops and tail wagging at him, bright blue eyes focused on his face as she attempted to place the lizard smell.

Jim gingerly reached out, scratching the spot behind her ears as he smiled. He always loved animals, dogs as well. Although, as Jim tilted his head and placed himself sitting on the ground before her, he scanned the dog with his visible cobalt eye. 'She must be a mixed breed, or something. She's a little larger than a normal dog.' He thought while rubbing a calloused palm over her head.

"Where you headed, ol' girl?" Jim was more than curious as to why a dog such as this was alone; he hadn’t seen many since his arrival in Kannagara. Besides, she seemed tame and friendly, so she more than likely wouldn't be a stray. "You going off to find a friend of yours?"

He didn't like to say master or human. He never thought of himself as Karen's master. Surely, when a human and animal - crocodile, in his case - had a bond like he had with Karen, there really weren’t master or animal titles to be found.

Only the word family was true to that type of bond.

Not averse to getting some friendly scratches, Blue blinked placidly at the human as he questioned her, letting out a sigh. She wished she had a friend to find here- though that was a bit of a loose term, considering she didn't really know that many people in the first place.

It was beside the point that she'd seen a few of them die right in front of her...

With a grumbling huff Blue flopped down to lay on her stomach, gazing up at the human mournfully. Now why did he have to remind her of that?

Jim glanced down at the blue dog and smiled sadly, seeing the somber look in Blue's eyes.

"Ah, I see." He knew what it was like to be alone - before he had met Karen, before he got to know Judai and the others. "Well..." He paused, thinking of a good response. He knew animals were smart, and could understand human dialect well. Being with Karen was proof enough of that.

"Want to take a walk, ol' girl?" He asked suddenly, patting her head with a caring hand. Maybe they'd run into someone who could care for her? If not, Jim was almost tempted to take her in himself, as long as Karen didn't have any objections to another friend.

Placated by his understanding, and the fact he wasn't treating her like an idiot, Blue stood up again. A walk sounded nice right about now, and he wasn't bad company at all.

She bumped her head gently against a leg in agreement before looking around, then back at him in a 'where are we going?' fashion.

Jim was more than pleased when Blue responded to his offer, rubbing her head against his leg in a questioning gesture. At her confused look, he smiled and leaned down to scratch her ears.

"Let's go find you some food. I need to pick up some more anyway for dinner." He murmured aloud, his tone of voice not really focused on the task at hand. With a yawn, he rubbed his bandages over his eye and started to walk.

Blue leaned against him, her not inconsiderable weight propped up by his form for a moment as he scratched her ears again, making a pleased noise.

At the mention of food she perked up a bit more, trotting after him easily and wondering how he'd gotten injured. She couldn't smell any blood- maybe it was an old one?

She kept an easy pace with him, matching his speed out of much practice with Pops- eyes and ears always on the alert for trouble.

Jim found her alert nature comforting as he walked throught the village, scanning around for the market vendors with an alert eye. He figured he'd have enough money to spare for Blue, enough to at least order her a bit more meat.

He walked slow, enjoying the dog's company and the strange quiet of the village. Overhead, the mist and clouds of the village swirled slowly, and as Jim paused to watch, it seemed ominous and comforting at the same time.

"Seems like it might rain soon." He said aloud. He glanced down at Blue, and offered her a smile. "We should hurry so we don't get wet. The rain doesn't bother me, but it won't be good for the food." He scratched her ears again. "Besides, I don't want you getting sick, ol' girl."

Eying the clouds as well and nose testing the air Blue guessed the storm would hit in a few hours, maybe two at the most, ear flicking as she calculated the odds.

Then weighed the pros and cons as slightly coarse fur was run through by gentle fingers. She tilted her head, watching the human before coming to a decision.

"Blue. My name is Blue."

Jim froze, blinking down at the dog as he heard words come from her; the voice female, firm, and soothing. Then, he smiled, slowly, calmly. "Nice name."

Something told him she was different, and given the fact that this is Kannagara, Jim prepared himself for almost anything to happen. He'd seen other animals talking, and heard of Judai mention some people shifting into animals, and vice-versa. Besides, it wasn't so different from Karen - he could understand her as well as human speech.

Something in him told him it wasn't strange, even though it was, and that he wasn't supposed to be afraid of Blue.

"I'm Jim." He replied, offering a simple, comforting smile.

Tail wagging and giving her version of a grin Blue was very glad he didn't seem too out of sorts from hearing her talk.

"Thank you. It's nice to meet you, Jim."

Looking up at the sky an ear flicked as she considered the clouds again. "Probably have about an hour before it starts to rain, and don't worry about me," she turned and blinked at him, shaking her coat out absently, "I don't get sick very easily."

Unlike humans who seemed to be a bit more frail than she was.

Jim sent her a smile and a tip of his hat as he walked, already adjusted to her pleasing company. He followed her gaze again to the sky, taking in her information with a keen mind; animals were always more alert with nature than humans, no matter how hard Jim had tried to do the same.

"That's good to hear." He nodded to himself out of habit, a habit that was nothing to take note of. "I tend to stay in good health, as well." The single eye watched the clouds, and Jim noticed absently he had stopped walking.

"I have to say, you speak very well, Blue." He laughed, the sound calm and cheery. "It's an interestin' change, that's for sure." No disrespect or suspicion was in his voice, only amazement and a bit of wonder.

"By the way, where are you heading, if you don't mind me askin’?" Always polite with a lady - Jim followed this seriously yet still allowed the female to stand for herself and do as she wished. Jim took pride in that attribute of his.

Stopping with him Blue tilted her head up to peer at him, tail thumping against the ground at the complement. “Thank you- I guess always hearing others talk helped with that, though I didn't find out I had wolf's blood in me until a few months ago...” She paused and frowned to herself, brows furrowing. Actually, for all she knew she'd been dead for years, or moments. It was a little disorienting.

His next question caught her attention again, Blue giving Jim the dog equivalent of a shrug, head shaking roughly as if to throw something off. “Nowhere. I have no place to go to- and I came from an area that had an enormous tree. And butterflies. My world is gone as far as I know. So I've just been exploring, going from village to village and surrounding areas. And some of the creatures here... Ugh. They smell terrible and taste worse.”

"Wolf, huh?" Jim cracked a smile. "Real beauties, even though I haven't seen many back in my world. They lived in other places." He walked over to a nearby bench and sat down, sudden fatigue snapping at him like a wolf's jaws in attack. Why, he didn't know ( ... )
