Title: Denial
Author: Me (Kamitori)
Characters/Pairings: Mongolia/China, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Tibet, Hong Kong
Rating: K
Warnings: Uh...yaoi. Does that fit as a warning?
Summary: He refuses to admit it as true, not even when his own self tells him it’s so.
A/N: Well, I’ve never actually contemplated Mongolia and China until now. To be truthful, their relation is more of a love-hate kind because of their long history with each other, but I suppose it could happen. Written in Mongolia's POV.

When it happens he goes into shock, stiffens, eyes wide, lips pressed tight together and his heart beats so fast he thinks it will burst and he will die, but he knows it will never happen because he is a nation, a powerful nation.

Then it clicks in his mind and he quickly pushes away and ignores the hurt look and runs and does not stop until he reaches the safety of his home and tells his boss not to bother him if there were any calls for him.

That night he fiddles with his glasses--a nervous habit that he never learned to grow out of, despite it showing weakness--and flushes, denying the possibility of ever reciprocating those feelings.

He will not acknowledge it because he does not feel that way, has never felt that way, and will never feel that way despite their longstanding history; he ignores the slight pang in his chest when the hurt look flashes through his mind.

They avoid contact with each other--or rather he avoids contact, making sure that one of his younger sibling is always with him to dodge any unwanted conversations, though it is becoming increasingly difficult.

Thai gets frustrated the fifth time it happens in a single day and bops him on the head, ignoring the blatant disrespect, and tells him to get over it and just confess or seek professional help from one of their sisters.

Korea is a bit upset, but he does not want to see them so awkward with each other and tells him to forget their history and just go with it; he cannot because he refuses to believe it is true, that he actually feels that way.

Japan tells him that he should have seen it coming, that all the signs were there, that he is too stubborn and stupid and oblivious to not see past their silly little rivalry, that he should look past their history and look at what has happened now in the present.

He seeks out Nam because of her closeness and similar mentality and she just shakes her head with a sigh and asks him if he is absolutely sure when he confesses and warns him of heartbreak; he is adamant that he does not return the feelings and is swatted after being called thick-headed.

His counseling with Tai over warm white tea and baozi goes a bit better, though Tai is somewhat bitter and warns him not to cause any trouble, but discreetly slips him a small hand knife in case he ever needed to protect himself from further advances.

Tibet does not offer him any words of comfort or condolences, but his silent ways lifts his heavy heart and he thinks that maybe he’ll have his brother live in his house just for the zen of it all and wonders if he should bring back Taoism.

He nearly gets burned with a multitude of fireworks by an obviously ticked off Hong Kong when he visits; is yelled at by the normally placid brother; is held at gunpowder point and is cautioned; he leaves a bit shaken and makes note not to visit Hong again with this matter.

When they meet again, he feels his pulse speed up and his face reddening; he is skittish and bumbling like a young teen confessing his love and cannot look China in the eyes when he sees the pleading look.

China moves closer and takes his hand and he feels faint and ecstatic at the same time, his gut wrenching and fluttering and the contact, much to his chagrin, and he still cannot look at his brother without quickly averting his gaze.

China squeezes his hand and apologies come tumbling out of his mouth: for ancient times, for forcing him to live in China’s house, for refusing his independence then acknowledging him as free then revoking it again, for acting brash; all he wants to do is shut him up, so he does.

His mind finally catches up with him when he feels China’s lips move against his own and quickly breaks away; his face is flushed and he can barely breath and reddens even more when he hears China’s cheerful laugh and decides he does not care if it is true or not.

So he dips down and captures China’s lips again and grins when his brother presses back.

Notes:

1. China and Mongolia has a long and arduous history (no joke): Huns and Song Dynasties and Genghis Khan and invasions and whatnot.

2. Mongolia was a part of China and was finally recognised as a nation by China in 1945, but then China revoked it in 1953.

3. Technically China still thought of Mongolia as part of it until the 1990's (possessive much, China?).
