Also yes, Night Watch (and the sequel Day Watch) are kind of cool. But they are much more visually cool, than they are well-written.

Re. Night Watch, I'm sorry, I should have clarified, I'm reading the Terry Pratchett novel. I'm guessing you're referring to the Russian film, which I haven't seen, but which looks worth renting, if only for the swish visuals it seems to boast.

I know a few other folks who can't get behind Pratchett, and I can see why (I didn't really enjoy him the first time I tried him) but for whatever reason, his style appeals to me, even when he's being preachy, which he's not shy of doing. *shrug*
