*laughs* Yup! I'm enjoying seeing John and Dean from Jess's POV. I love how many alarming conclusions can be drawn about them when you don't have all the info.

Gosh, I remember when I was writing those sections. Jess was so freaked out and John and Dean were just terrifying, especially John.

Man, I'm feeling claustrophobic just thinking about it. Maybe I should run off and read humorous one-shots, too!

Yeah, John is...I mean, I love the man, but dude, he can be scary even when you know he's not a psycho who beats his kids.

It was the first story I wrote where John played a large part (and pretty much the only one until weathercock snowfall), and I swear, the atmosphere was more affected by John's presence than by any other character. Part of that is the outside POV, of course -- John seems a lot darker to Jess because she doesn't know him and he doesn't accept her the way he does his sons -- but part of it is just that John is a scary son of a bitch with this massive presence that hangs over everything even when he's not taking part in the proceedings.

Or, well, that's my take on him, anyway.

Yeah, I am rather in awe of anyone who can write John because I am terrified of doing so. *hides from the John muse* I like your scary-sonofabitch take on him, but I can see what you mean about feeling claustrophobic while writing him here. He just crowds everyone else in the room, doesn't he?

Dude, I was totally freaked out about writing John, too. But I kinda wrote myself into a place where I HAD to, and then, well, I did. It took me a long time to pin down how I see the character, though. I read a LOT of fic that featured a very well-written John before something finally clicked in my head and I went, "Ooooh. That's who he is. Okay then." My interpretation is probably not exactly like anyone else's but it works for me.

Oo, if you happen to feel like dumping Johnfic recs on me sometime, I'd totally owe you one. I have a fic that wants to be written from his POV, and I just...I'm so scared. Fic might help.

I'm going to watch for that, because I'm in a similar predicament re: my muse and John. *makes a note to read The Crow on the Cradle as soon as am done with I'd Drive All Night*

I had forgotten how much fun reading chapter fic was. For a long time, I've just been reading stuff I can finish in one or two sittings, and anything long just seemed like too much of a commitment. The I started "I'd Drive All Night" and remembered that chapter fic is awesome. So I've been binging a bit on it.

Yeah, I have a fondness for chaptered fic, which makes it odd how little of it I've written. (Well, how little of it I've *finished* writing, I guess, which makes more sense.)

"I'd Drive All Night" is quite something. I twitched at something gun-related that seemed to contradict canon, but when the only thing that bugs you is one throwaway line? Lordy. Great fic.

Also just finished reading what the author has written so far in the "But Deadly" verse, and holy CRAP, I'd never read this type of AU before, and it's really quite amazing.

Holy crap. Just finished "I'd Drive All Night," and am kind of emotionally wrecked. *falls over* (The chapter after Dean and Sam argue and Jess tries to talk to Dean about it? I had to stop reading and go do something funny. Usually I find that stuff cathartic, but good lord, it was just too real.)

I'm keeping track of this author from now on.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying. I loved that chapter. Like you say, so real it hurts. If it helps, I think all the one-shots that she's written in that 'verse are humorous, so if you need a pick-me-up...

Seconded. The writing in that story hurts so good. The chapters after Jess dies? OMG. I couldn't comment for a while, and then I wrote a really long massive one. :)
