Yay for your FIL being a stone-cold fan! Yay for technical assistance! Yay for episode reviews!*grin*
"Mystery Spot" is one of my favorite episodes once it stops being funny because of just HOW scary it was as another look into Sam's stone-cold-crazy side. I would argue that "Jus in Bello" shows some aftereffects (even though I know the order of episodes was jumbled due to the writers' strike) and I'm figuring the effects of "Mystery Spot" on Sam will come back big-time in Season 4 given how Season 3 ended.
I am TOTALLY unspoiled for Season 4 and intend to remain that way, so the last is just speculation. And I don't know how spoiled or unspoiled you are for the remaining Season 3 episodes, so I shall shut up now.*grin*
I'm looking forward to "Jus in Bello" very much. *grin* I'm unspoiled for anything after "Mystery Spot" (amazingly). Can't wait to be caught up on this show so that I can play in the fandom sandbox without having to constantly sing "La la la, can't hear you" over the talk of the finale.
"Jus in Bello" is faaaaabulous. Congratulations on being unspoiled, but I can understand having to sing "La la la, can't hear you" over the finale weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.*wry grin*
Whom exactly did he do this for? Were there deals under the table with someone?
Yeah, the trickster's motivation is another sticking point for me. I mean, not that trickster's really have to have a reason to mess with people, I guess, but still.
I don't see it as ragging on John as a parent so much as I see it as Dean finally verbalizing things for which he resents his father.
Yeah, I got the spirit in which it was intended, I just couldn't help but feel a little defensive on John's behalf. Kids can never see all of their parents at once, just one facet or another at a time.
And if it gets Dean to finally admit that he's worth saving, I say it's a good thing.
True, dat.
Yay Huey Lewis! Another of my friend Greg's favorites, so obviously he has broader tastes than Dean's. *grin*
Oh, and we just watched "Jus in Bello" tonight and damn. More on that later.
I really enjoyed AVSC, but Sam being eight also hurt my brain. I fanwank it so that Sam did know, but he was in denial. He didn't want to know and he's just a kid so he doesn't understand stuff and he's probably wrong. Why would he go for the journal otherwise? He had to know that something was up and it was probably something scary. That's my story and I'm sticking to it
( ... )
Yeah, Bela's presence in DaLDoM did seem a little pastede-on-yay, didn't it? Oh well.
*laughs* You don't have to go "oh no!" every time you disagree with me about something, dude! I love John in all his messed-up, badass glory, but I realize that's far from a universal opinion. I do tend to get a tad defensive of him, though, maybe because there's so much spitting hatred of the guy in fandom. But mileage varies! I know this! If not for this fact, the universe would be boring!
I just about died from the whole talking-in-tandem "Sam Winchester cries through sex" bit. Oh my. Hee.
The all-in-Sam's-head theory is as good an explanation as any. And that fic would be keen.
Huh, I didn't know that about the eps being swapped until Kefira mentioned it further up in comments, here. I like them in this order, I think. Even if it was unintentional, I think you can see glimmers of a post-six-months-of-revenge-trip Sam in JiB. And yeah, I'd have to agree that if the season had to end on one or the other, JiB would be my choice for finale, too.
I hated JDM on Grey's Anatomy as Denny. Well, I liked Denny fine, but the storyline he was involved in made me vomit from beginning to end. So when I saw JDM on SPN, I felt so bad about hating him so much that I liked John a lot more than I would have otherwise and cut him a lot of slack. Now, the guilt has kind of rubbed off and I'm more comfortable with smacking him and going, "John! How could you let some of your last words to Sam be, 'If you had shot me, none of this would have happened'? WHY???"
I wasn't sure how I felt about the order switch, but I've made my peace with it and maybe even like it better now.
Yeah, I winced during my re-watch of "In My Time of Dying" when I realized that those were pretty close to his last words to Sam. The two of them really are such a pair. Like me and my mom: too much alike to have any sympathy for each other at all.
