I do not know how I can add to your reviews, other than to say "word."
Re: the Trickster . . . yeah, that's a twitchy thing with me, too. And I've gone over in my brain as to what exactly he did. Was he just messing with Sam in a mental, Twilight Zone kind of way? Like none of it *actually* happened except in Sam's mind? Whom exactly did he do this for? Were there deals under the table with someone? (Some in the fandom speculate that Ruby put him up to this. I don't know if I buy that or not . . . )
Re: Sam's Bela dream . . . aside from the humor of it, it did kind of fit into the "dream" theme of the ep, but that's about the extent to which I can connect it with the surrounding story.
Dean's Picnic . . . makes me hurt for him. He so wants a permanent relationship with a woman . . . and children . . . and a normal life . . .
There has been much meta written about Dean's dream sequence. I don't see it as ragging on John as a parent so much as I see it as Dean finally verbalizing things for which he resents his father. Doesn't mean he loves or respects John any less, but it does mean that Dean is finally admitting to himself that, to use Sam's verbiage, how the boys were raised was jacked. And if it gets Dean to finally admit that he's worth saving, I say it's a good thing.
Of course, one of my theories once was that dream!Dean was actually a demon that had worked its way into the dream . . . but that thought kind of got lost in the brain-hurtage pondering this sequence can cause.
Mystery Spot: The first time I saw the hit-and-run, I was very, very bothered. The first death again has Jensen conveying pages of dialogue with just a look. Loved the "day in the life" aspect of each opening.
And I about bounced off the couch with excitement when they used a Huey Lewis song!
It has often been said that Sam after Wednesday is what John would have been if he'd not had the boys to take care of.
And did you notice there was an extra meal sitting on the table when Sam was eating? Iirc, it was a burger. Sam continues to order food as if Dean were there. *sniff*
This string of eps (DaLDoM, Mystery Spot, and Jus in Bello) are probably my faves of the season. Because, dude.

Yeah, the trickster's motivation is another sticking point for me. I mean, not that trickster's really have to have a reason to mess with people, I guess, but still.

Yeah, I got the spirit in which it was intended, I just couldn't help but feel a little defensive on John's behalf. Kids can never see all of their parents at once, just one facet or another at a time.
And if it gets Dean to finally admit that he's worth saving, I say it's a good thing.
True, dat.
Yay Huey Lewis! Another of my friend Greg's favorites, so obviously he has broader tastes than Dean's. *grin*
Oh, and we just watched "Jus in Bello" tonight and damn. More on that later.
