~ ugh, school has started again. I am full of hate. My comp. kids actually look okay... but my kidlit kids! So boring OMG. I am really freaking sick of teaching kidlit to education majors. I know this is unfair, but I cannot help myself. A prejudice, I haz it! Just, look, I am not going to tell you about anything you can use in a sixth grade classroom, okay? I never understood sixth graders when I was one, and I never read these books like I was one (even when I was!), and frankly, I just don't care. I want to talk about fairy tales and sex and violence and magic and fantasy and coming of age. I will talk to you about deconstruction and fanfiction and russian formalism and queer theory -- it's not about teaching books, it's about reading books. There's a difference.

my internal people poll was pretty inconclusive though I did learn a lot of interesting stuff about you guys! From my limited sample, skewed because apparently the ladies far outnumber the guys on my f-list (I have historically been preferred by ladies, so this does not surprise me!), it appears that gender has very little to do with whether one carries on conversations with invisible/imaginary people. I was intrigued however by the correlation that a lot of y'all drew between this and talking (or hearing) fictional people! It reminds me of the line from Eddison's The Worm Ourobourous that Pamela Dean quotes in Tam Lin to describe the wonders of a liberal arts education: "O Queen," said Juss, "somewhat I know of grammarie and divine philosophy, yet must I bow to thee for such learning, that dwellest here from generation to generation and dost commune with the dead."
~ Really weird
snow globes.
~ I heard somewhere that there is a picture (from the White Collar dvd extras) of Matt Bomer kissing Tim Dekay. IS THIS TRUE, INTERWEBS? If so, please to show me? My google-fu has failed me.
~ I am learning a lot of about Roman/ medieval sword-fighting & combat manuals for one of these Merlin fics I'm writing. It is really fun.
~ NYC folk -- does anyone have any good bar recs in the East Village, near the Sunshine theater? Thanks!
