. . . And the Rabbits

Jun 30, 2014 12:51

I'm not exactly sure what age I was, but I became thrilled with stuffed toys of rabbits. I loved them. I still do love them, but I'm not so bound to them that I haven't been able to get rid of some to make room in my house. There was a time that I couldn't stand to get rid of any of them. These stuffed toy rabbits now sit on a bed frame where there is no mattress. The bed frame was made to be able to be a bunk bed on top of the bed where I sleep. However, if it is put on that bed, it is too high with the wooden extenders my Daddy built to make room for me to sleep or too low for me to sleep when I'm in the bed.

Anyway, I loved those rabbits so much and I would call the something that resembled the word, “boonies” like “I live out in the boonies,” but it had a flattened “oo” sound. I didn't know the term “living out in the boonies” when I started calling them this. Sometimes, I still call them “boonies.”

Oddly enough, I've never actually wanted a pet rabbit. I loved to see them and visit them, but I've always loved dogs. In fact, we have three dogs in our house. Yet, that's another story.

Why write about rabbits?

It seems that somehow, the rabbits have followed me. When I started back at college to get my Masters in English, I had to take some prerequisite courses. That meant that I could start school once I had all my fees paid and the semester started.

I knew the topic of my paper for my American Literature class within the first week. We had read a native American story and it had a trickster rabbit in it. As the class discussed the story, I mentioned that trickster rabbits still existed. I mentioned a few of them.

That got me to thinking about the paper I would write. I did okay with that paper, but I wrote more of an explanatory paper than a research or term paper. I didn't understand exactly what I was writing since I hadn't written that type of paper. I had only written explanatory papers.

I have since edited that paper because I like the theme and the premise. However, I am not completely done editing it. I need to get it edited so I can turn it in to the English Graduate Program. I am in the graduate school itself, but I'm not yet accepted into the English Graduate Program.

It seems like rabbits, although I didn't know it, have been following me all of my life. There was Rabbit from The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. There was the movie of Roger Rabbit. Then I loved my toy rabbits. I finally find myself writing about rabbits.

It seems to me that this is not a coincidence, but rather something that was meant to be. I just did not know that until now.

If you are my LiveJournal friend, concrit on the rabbit paper is definitely welcome. It is in my journal. I trust the LiveJournal users, but I don't trust random people on the Internet looking for term papers.

You can view that entry by visiting My Rabbit Paper.
