For botanee - The five DW scenarios I'd change

Aug 10, 2009 15:07

This one is actually very hard to do, because there's a lot of stuff I'd change (but then, isn't that what fanfic is for?) so keeping it down to five is complicated. So I'll stick to the main things that bothered me (and I'm going to leave out the episodes I deliberately ignore as a rule and stick to what seems major to me)

1) I'd give more back history to Martha Jones. I believe that S3 was the weakest, and that Martha's lack of background has a lot to do with it. With Rose, we got to see Jackie and Mickey on a regular basis, and they had a lot of interaction with the Doctor. With Donna, Wilf was made of win. Also, both Rose and Donna had no projects for the future, they were both living a very ordinary life, boring even. Martha was very different from them. She was a medical student, had projects in life, was generally happy and optimistic. Also, her family stayed in the background most of the time. There was no time to get to know her mum or dad or sister, and that meant she wasn't as three-dimensional as she'd have deserved to be. I think that, given the proper character development, I'd have liked her MUCH more as a companion. She definitely deserved a lot more, and S3 would have been much, much better with that.

2) I'd have Jack stay with the Doctor after The Last of the Time Lords. They needed time to talk (and shag), especially for Jack to heal after being the Master's toy for a whole year. Plus I'd have adored a Ten/Jack series in the show... ;)

3) I'd give more time to the Nine/Rose/Jack dynamics. They had only five episodes together, and that was really not enough.

4) I'd add one scene to Journey's End, just one scene, with the Doctor and Rose on their own, no-one else around and no imminent danger. Give them the proper reunion they deserved. Then I'd have Jack join them for a proper Jack/Rose reunion as well, where Rose would learn about Jack's immortality and why the Doctor abandoned him on Satellite Five.

5) Dobby-Doctor and Tinkerbell-Doctor would NOT be part of The Last of the Time Lords. When you've got fantastic actors like John Simm and David Tennant, you do not ruin it all with some cheap (well, probably not cheap, actually) cgi. The whole thing went overboard and completely lessened the impact of the episode for me. Which is a shame, because bringing the Master back was a touch of genius to begin with, and John Simm was the perfect cast for him.

christopher eccleston, nine/jack/rose, episode: the last of the time lords, doctor who series 4, tenth doctor, john simm, billie piper, episode: journey's end, meme, ninth doctor, doctor who series 3, doctor who, rose tyler, episode: bad wolf, david tennant, the master, episode: boom town, ten/jack/rose, episode: the parting of the ways, picspam, captain jack harkness, john barrowman, doctor who series 1
