On March 22nd a blast near Beirut, Lebanon shook a near by Christian area killing at least two people.
According to police, no one is sure what caused the blast in the main Christian port city of Jounieh, which is ten miles north Beirut.
The leading T.V. station in the county, LBC, said three and died and two were wounded in the blast, which occurred slightly after midnight.
A protest had occurred at the U.S. embassy in Beirut earlier that day. Shouting “death to America” while ripping a portrait of president Bush were a bout 1,000 students. They were there to criticize Washington’s interference in Lebanon.
The protesters were also shouting “Death to Israel” while waving Lebanese flags. The giant mob tied to push through barbed wire an army checkpoint.
Thankfully they got nowhere the embassy. The protesting mob was held back about half a mile away from the embassy due to riot soldiers, embassy police and barbed wire.
The assassination of a local newspaper owner, Rafik Hariri sparked anti-Syrian protest bringing pressure on Syria to withdraw from Lebanon.
Last March troops were drawn back to eastern Lebanon. Both sides are showing off, tying to see who has more support among the public.
Hundreds of thousands of anti-Syrian demonstrators flooded the capital on March 15, it was the biggest protest ever in Lebanon.
