So much stuff

I'm trying to organize my craft room (yay, a craft room!) here at the new house, but it's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I need to get rid of a TON of vintage clothing and fabric. It might actually be a literal ton. I haven't been very discriminating in my vintage clothing and accessories purchases, as long as they're cheap. I'm ( Read more... )

I didn't!

I guess the best advice I can give is to just do what you think is best for yourself first, collection second. I don't know about you, but most of the stuff I ended up getting rid of, I felt better about. EXCEPT for older knitting mags, and certain sewing patterns. My advice is to never get rid of those.

As for organizing, the best I did was organize my notions first--I have a post about it from December or January, then catalogue and organize the fabrics. Everything has a home, a label, a box--and I do my absolute best to stick with that.

One of my main problems is being a craft hoarder. I want to make hats, make lace, print fabric, make wooden dolls and dress them, create new "vintage" clothes, and of course make all kinds of 18th cent. stuff! I also want to scrapbook and make Victorian whimsical ornaments from all the vintage Christmas findings I have. Plus more I can't even think of. I really need to jettison some interests.

Oh, I can empathize for sure--aside from 18th century clothes, I also want to knit, make/redecorate hats, crazy quilt, whole-cloth quilt, modern clothes, and other periods (federalist, 1920s-30s, maybe someday some medieval or 16th century German). I went to Salvation Army one evening to grab an extra luggage bag for a trip, and walked out with $40 worth of hats in a trash bag (and the luggage, of course ( ... )

Cute shoes! But yes, I've gone down the road of not-quite-fitting too many times, esp. if it's on sale. I always end up not wearing the item but not getting rid of it either because I haven't worn it. Isn't the mind a crazy thing?

Speaking of shoes, someone just reminded me of the Amerimark site. Have you looked at their shoes? They're nowhere near the quality of the shoe you linked of course, but for "costuming" they seem to have some good vintage styles. I've been tempted by some of their t-straps, just for play.

This sandal has a 1940s feel to me. And who doesn't love a polka-dot espadrille? There's something cute about this boot, too. They also have some downright terrible things, like a denim boot.

I have looked at their shoes--mostly the dress pumps--they look so much like teens and 20s shoes.

Those boots are adorable!

Oh, yeah, and do the Etsy or Ebay thing, for sure. That's my plan. I hope I can leave my job with a bit of lead time so I have time to list things, sell them, and pack up, also shop for a house.

Oh, a house! Oh, the gardening I could do...wait, there I go again, more interests!

I neglected to mention that I have a refrigerator shelf full of hoarded tulip bulbs bought at low prices late last fall that need to go ... somewhere. See, I can even hoard gardening things!

Is the move set in stone now?

Yes--we will definitely be moving to Illinois in the future--I won't know for another two weeks if that will be this summer or next, though. Maybe we can finally meet in person at an event!

Oh yes--and bulbs need to be planted in the fall usually. You can probably plant them now, but they won't come up until next year.
