So much stuff

I'm trying to organize my craft room (yay, a craft room!) here at the new house, but it's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I need to get rid of a TON of vintage clothing and fabric. It might actually be a literal ton. I haven't been very discriminating in my vintage clothing and accessories purchases, as long as they're cheap. I'm ( Read more... )

Oh, I can empathize for sure--aside from 18th century clothes, I also want to knit, make/redecorate hats, crazy quilt, whole-cloth quilt, modern clothes, and other periods (federalist, 1920s-30s, maybe someday some medieval or 16th century German). I went to Salvation Army one evening to grab an extra luggage bag for a trip, and walked out with $40 worth of hats in a trash bag (and the luggage, of course).

I wouldn't jettison everything. I'm guessing you have a magpie mind like me, where one thing holds your interest tightly for a month or two, then something else tickles your fancy and you end up with that for a while. But, you almost always circle back to the first thing. Keep the best of the best, try not to buy extra stuff you find in a store unless it's REAAALY AWESOME (hello, velvet bag embroidered with real mirror shishas and gold buillion for $20!)

I get ideas all the time when I see things--I try to think about it I will actually execute said thing, the answer is no, or, I'll sit on it for a day. Usually, I forget by then, or the item has been bought. I've only been bummed out by this once--with a blue lusterware tea set that I watched for weeks and was gone when I finally had the cash (this was several years ago). Probably for the best, since I have little room for an extra tea set.

The only times when I fail to be immune is when I am feeling sad or dissatisfied with everything, then I tend to go on buying sprees. I had a really hard time with it on Saturday--my favorite vintage store downtown still had the magenta tweed coat I really liked back in the fall, on top of that, they had sandals from Remix Vintage that I've been eyeing on their site for YEARS ( http://remixvintageshoes.myshopify.com/collections/womens/products/dara?variant=818829645), on SALE. But...the coat was slightly too big in the body and a tad short in the arms (it felt so lovely on, though, that lovely satin lining!) And, the sandals in 10 were stupid big, and the 8 was a smidge too small, they had no 9.

I almost ALMOST bought both anyway. But, I had to remember I'm moving soon, that I'm a bit unhappy, and I'd be less happy $150 in the hole with ill-fitting things.

Cute shoes! But yes, I've gone down the road of not-quite-fitting too many times, esp. if it's on sale. I always end up not wearing the item but not getting rid of it either because I haven't worn it. Isn't the mind a crazy thing?

Speaking of shoes, someone just reminded me of the Amerimark site. Have you looked at their shoes? They're nowhere near the quality of the shoe you linked of course, but for "costuming" they seem to have some good vintage styles. I've been tempted by some of their t-straps, just for play.

This sandal has a 1940s feel to me. And who doesn't love a polka-dot espadrille? There's something cute about this boot, too. They also have some downright terrible things, like a denim boot.

I have looked at their shoes--mostly the dress pumps--they look so much like teens and 20s shoes.

Those boots are adorable!
