Sorry for the long absence (if anyone noticed) but we just got our power back today after losing it during the ice storm last Tuesday.
We spent Tuesday night at home, listening to the cracking and tumbling of icy branches with the occasional shudder of the house when they struck us, but by Wednesday it was clear it was going to be too cold to tough it out. My sister and her husband and my parents had lost power as well, so we all removed to a vacant house downtown that my parents own. We brought our cots and inflatable mattresses and holed up there for the next week with a 12-inch television that received two channels on the antenna. At least we didn't have to go to one of the shelters. My sister got power back Monday and my parents are still waiting.
It was a real wasted week though; I didn't accomplish anything. Every day I kept hoping that our power would come on and we killed time by watching bad movies. I never took any sewing projects with me because I was too restless. We were really afraid our pipes would freeze last night as the wind chill dropped the temp. down into the negatives.
So now I'm a week behind on my flist and some entries have no doubt dropped off completely. I don't know if I'll get caught up, so if there's something important that you think I should see, please point it out.
Here are my icy pictures, taken on Wednesday after the storm.
Yay, I get to go sleep in my own bed!
