I really, really need some kind of adventure and/or adrenaline fix. I haven't done anything really exciting in awhile (except cross that railroad bridge with Josh). I miss the mountains and the west. I really miss Wyoming. Part of me wishes I had gone back there this summer. It'll be nice to be local and a little more close to home, though. I have to remind myself that I'll only be two hours away from my family and friends (and 30 minutes from a case of yuengling!). I would've been able to go back to Jackson this summer, and I would've made more money (about $5/hr more). The only thing keeping me from doing that was the desire to stay local and to be able to come home/do stuff with my friends and such. It sucks to be 2,000 miles away sometimes, even though Jackson often helped me forget. Another concern of mine was that I knew if I went back to Jackson, I'd get myself into some hairy situations, probably climbing. I know that sounds irresponsible, but you can't really even go climbing without putting yourself at SOME risk, even in the safest of conditions. Of course, a big half of me is screaming "Great, let's go!", but the other half is mumbling "let's take it easy until you get health insurance" and, for once, I followed the mumbler.
So I chose West Virginia, which is about 5 days from being my new home for the next 6 months or so. It'll still be great, I don't doubt that. Field work of any kind is always fun... getting paid to be outside and hike, what could beat it? I'll only be 30 minutes from Ryan, so there goes my weekends. It looks like the town I'll be in (Jacksonburg) is pretty nice, lots of mountainy (eastern style, of course) terrain and there's a railroad track running right through town (hopefully with insulators). I'm living on a private farm with lots of trails and a couple ponds, so that'll be nice, it sounds relaxing. Will get to do some fishing, hiking and mountain biking in my free time.
It'll be great.
