So, an update for my faithful readers (the future me). This one has a lot to cover, so here goes...
Last week one of my best friends got married. Actually, two of my best friends got married. Beforehand I was trying to think of which one, Josh or Liz, I met first. I couldn't remember which one it was, I just know I met them both in the latter half of 2005. There's not much I remember about the latter half of 2005, partly because of the aforementioned Josh. It's alright though, I met em and we became great friends rather quickly.
Adam and I used to joke about Josh saying that "he won the game". This was based on the fact that he is so successful; good job and such, making some money. He really won the game last Friday (the 20th) and now the two of em can continue to win the game together from here on out. It makes me happy that two people who are so perfect for each other are married. It makes me happier that it's Josh and Liz. It makes me happiest that Liz likes to fish and camp and bullshit and do all of the stuff that we like to do. The Guthrie family rocks.
Another thing about the past weekend to celebrate was the return of that lovable airman 1st class, adam. It was great to see him at the wedding and great to catch up and stuff. It was even greater to ride shotgun in the Cheby like the old days. I think cruising around with adam is probably one of my favorite past-times lol. We went out and got about 8 pints of yeungling to celebrate with at the wedding reception. After that we went to Tin Lizzies to drink some more and hang out for awhile. After THAT I spent the night in Bippers room. Awesomeness.
On Sunday I came home, went to church, packed up some stuff, went back out to SVC to hang out and watch the game, took some people through the tunnels (Shane scared the heck out of me) and then drove down to WV with Ryan. It was fun, I learned some stuff about him (he likes country music?!) and we watched some SP. He went to work the next morning and I hung around until my boss came to pick me up so we could go to the work site, which is a private farm owned by Wheeling Jesuit University near Jacksonburg, WV. The farm is pretty nice, we're living in a converted barn. There are about 8 other people or so, and they are all great. A few Flyers fans in the mix, but that's something we don't have to worry about anymore (heh).
The work itself is incredibly, incredibly easy so far. The hardest part is learning the various bird calls and songs, but that will come with time and practice. It was rainy at the beginning of the week through to wednesday night, so for those days we went out for an hour or two in the morning and then were usually back by 10 or 11 am. On Thursday, I went out with a fella named Jeremy to reflag some plots. The weather was pretty nice and we hiked a good 7 miles or so, getting back by 1:30 pm. That was probably the hardest day of the week (but it was by no means hard). Friday we practiced spot mapping and trapped a field sparrow in a mist net and then on saturday we did some more spot mapping. On average we worked from about 730 or 8 am or so till noon. The hiking itself is relatively easy and straightforward - a lot of it is on ridges - and it's nothing harder than what I'd do for fun. After getting off for the day I'd often watch a movie, take a nap or go outside, depending on how nice it was. This was kind of boring; I'd rather have been biking or something, but I didn't have any of my stuff. One of the days I took a short walk down the nearby railroad tracks to look for insulators, but all of the poles were cut down and mostly removed. I found one still standing that had 3-4 insulators on it that I'd have taken, but I didn't have my grabber pole. I did find ONE pole down with a light aqua WT 154 on it that I took; put that one on my windowsill lol.
Anyways, I came home on Saturday after doing the spot mapping to get some stuff and stuff. My bike, fishing stuff etc all need to go out there. This upcoming Friday, Jeremy, EJ and myself are moving to another work site where we will stay for the summer. It's south of Jacksonburg by about 3 hours (so it's about 5 hours from home). They are renting us a cabin in Twin Falls State Park/Resort, which is southwest of Beckley WV. The park looks great and the cabins look greater (cable tv = pens games in the evenings). There is a stone fireplace, fully furnished rooms and kitchen and everything. I can't wait to see it. It sucks that it's farther away, but it'll be worth it for the extra perks.
So, I came home for the weekend, expecting to be back in WV by now, but my boss called last night and said not to worry about coming back until Tuesday evening or something since we couldn't do field work till Wednesday. Turkey season starts tomorrow so they don't want us in the field. Therefore I have a few extra days to hang out here and get my things together. I'm going to go hang out with Adam a little bit tomorrow and maybe spend the night at SVC or something, should be fun.
Speaking of Adam, I'm trying to plan a western trip to visit him later this summer or early fall. He'll be stationed in New Mexico on May 1st. I looked up some prices on plane tickets and they seem to be pretty cheap, so I'm going to try to put some money away to get out and visit him. Nick and Ryan are thinking about going as well, and I let Josh and Liz know too. It'll be funny to read this entry about half a year from now when it either did or didn't happen. Anyways, I was thinking of maybe making it an extended weekend of like 5 days or so to chill out and see some sights. Another idea I had was to climb Wheeler Peak, New Mexicos high point, which stands in at a lofty 13,161 ft. The Middle Teton, my highest peak, was 12,804 feet. That was Class III and IV, however, whereas Wheeler peak is a walk up at Class I and II, so it'll be much, much easier. The trail I have in mind is a 16 mile round trip route and I was thinking of trying to make it an overnighter. I recall how amazing the overnighter on the Middle Teton was and I hope to be able to repeat that again later this year. Will keep you updated throughout the summer as to how this pans out.

Anyways, that's all for now, I'll update when I can!
