I’d forgotten about this, too. Though I don’t quite know where to start in ‘filling in the gaps…’
FANDOM:
- You belong to General Technics and go to science fiction conventions.
- You have been into the sf scene for a long time!
Well, GT is not your real card-carrying affair, and I’m not as involved as I’d like to be. Or go to as many cons as I’d like; I started with Midwestcon in the mid 1970s, and been a steady sight on the midwestern circuit since then.
- You are into alternate histories.
I’ve had a fascination for SF and historical stuff since I was small, and the AH end is just a culmination of that interest. Presently, I’m one of the judges for the ‘Hugo’ of AH literature, called the Sidewise Award, and am trying to restart the AH APA POINT OF DIVERGENCE next month.
- You used to run Apa-69.
- You used to pub a fanzine titled Kathmandu Visions.
That was in another decade, and all the people are dead. I ran APA-69 for many years until I just ran out of steam and interest; other hands tried running it for a while and finally, it died out from a similar lack of steam. Kathmandu Visions was following in my desire to Pub My Ish, but a new one hasn’t come out since 1989. My pubbing project for the near term is to get POD back on a regular schedule.
HOME:
- …have two dogs named Dot and Dash.
It’s seriously debatable on those two being my dogs. Susan is #1 on the list, and Mere is #2. Connie and I are around #212. Susan is also a serious ‘animal person’, and I am not, despite being the son of one who was also a veterinarian.
WORK:
- You work for the guvmint.
Hopefully until 2013 at least…when my civil service retirement kicks in. Right now, I’m a Webmaster for the U.S. EPA, out of the Chicago office, and work on the Superfund area for that office. I’ve been working for EPA for 23 years, so far. Expect some of the above to change.
- Divorced once, Married twice.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…no, I’m happily remarried and we’ve been so for twelve years.
- You were born and raised in Ohio and used to want to move back there to live (you may still hold that desire, I’m not sure).
Born, raised, and prefer, yes. Chicago is reasonable for a large city, but I don’t really want to live in a large city. Had I the chance to move back, I would, but there’s the rest of the clan to consider.
DAUGHTER:
- …and a 5(?) year old daughter named Meredith
She’s six and three-quarters, she’ll have you know…
- …whom you adopted from China and who has a sister in the US also named Meredith.
And said sister was adopted by another family in Alabama, yes. They were not on the cover of Good Housekeeping, btw.
- You live close to where I grew up and you have the second cutest daughter on the planet
And you live near Toledo, which at least is in western Ohio. I *love* Ohio. And yeah, she is cute, and she thinks so, too.
FOOD:
- You used to like Droste (chocolate liqueur).
- You have an appreciation for weird food and Cincinnati-style chili.
Guilty. Haven’t seen Droste in a looong, time, but I rarely drink anything alcoholic, and that’s usually high-end ale.
OTHER PERSONAL:
- Your middle name is Arthur.
My father’s father’s name, yes. My mother’s father and brother’s name was James.
- You and rmjwell go way back, and you’ve given him some excellent relationship advice.
I try to. I will note that I do fine in handing out advice, and crappy in decisively taking the same from others.
- You’re a cancer survivor.
Knock on wood. My left kidney went out in January, 2000, and they caught it small, early and localized, and there’s been no sign of it reappearing yet.
- Your father was . . . not nice.
He was a - words fail me.
- Your thyroid was removed, and it weighed 5 pounds!
That was in February of this year, and yep.
- You were your class valedictorian or salutatorian.
Yes and no. My GPA was not up to that level, but I was specially chose to give a speech at graduation from my talents at speaking and writing. Reading it now, I think it sucks.
The computer in Birmingham, Alabama’s science museum clocked me in at 6′5″. The only person taller than me in my graduating class in HS was the basketball team’s center. I don’t really think of myself as all that tall.
