The age old complaint…

…of too much to do and too little time to do it in.

Jumping back into work on Wednesday, I found that our phone and internet was intermittently out, and we found and fixed the culprit.  That sort of thing, when you’re working from home, really strangles you, and both Susan and I were doing that today (rare).

The doctors have been pushing me to get back into the groove of losing weight, Susan and her mom have been making we-oughta noises, and I’ve been making if-you-guys-don’t-I-must noises, and Susan snapped into action to push those positive dietary changes to the rest of the house, which I’m all in favor of.

Meredith’s last day of school was Tuesday, and she was deeply relieved, I think, to be outta there.  She’s still awfully wild and cranky (from tired and stressed, I think) and my mental image of hands reaching up to strangle small child were tested a few times.  Next week, when she’s off at her sister’s house in Alabama, will be VERY quiet around here, I think.

I don’t know if I’ve really stated it in all of the in-and-out of hospital stuff, but Mere’s cousin (Susan’s brother’s daughter) Kailyn is visiting for the summer, and we’re glad to have her.  She doesn’t fit in at home (too sensitive and brainy) and she’s a little too used to the I-don’t-know-nawthin-whars-my-chew atmosphere at Susan’s brother’s house, where various people do a big dance around the truth in pretty much any circumstance.  Gets really irritating, especially since the worst of that crowd is one of the most miserable, lying, manipulative assh*le kids I know, and some of that we’re-going-to-twist-things-around-to-get-what-I-want-and-screw-you stuff goes over with me like cyanide in the punch bowl and spreads around the rest of the household.  I got zapped *once* on that at the movies today, but not again - Kay wanted to get a bag of peanut M&Ms, which are very much against the new diet that the grownups are setting up, and I ended up promising her that I’d get what she wanted at the concession stand rather than have her spend her money.  What she wanted were the forbidden M&Ms.  I kept my promise, but I felt burnt.

The main focus here right now is preparing for the Seekrit Project; Susan’s done work upstairs, and I need to do some downstairs - my big hangup is that the household accounts got way behind while I was ill earlier, and I desperately need to catch up on a lot of loose ends.
