Oh gosh, it's been a long time since I've posted. I had a pretty great summer, my first three months of full-time employment and living with Siena. I wish that I could have the weather of Palo Alto with the fun hip-ness of San Francisco, but really things have been great.

I'm getting ever closer to being a grown-up, what with my own primary care provider and 401k. Work has its upsides and downsides. While it's cool and fun, it's also exhausting. Since Siena has gone back to Oberlin, I've been spending more time at work, although I've also started exercising in the morning, or at least riding my bike for about 30 minutes before heading to work.

I'm on the xtools team, which is a pretty solid, fun team, although it's a little hard to explain what I'm working on to people who don't know anything about software companies. xtools does all the internal tools, mainly for development (reviewing changes to the code) and communication (we have an internal newsfeed and fancy discussions app), and also works on the "contact pipeline," which is essentially customer support. Right now I'm working with the Platform Policy folks to help them police apps more effectively. The downside is that not many people outside the company see the work, but the people you see as "the customer" are just upstairs, and my boss claims we can save the company tons of money in increased efficiency.

I haven't played nearly as many video games at work as I did as an intern, which is sad. Also sad is that I'm gonna have to move out of this awesome summer sublet soon. The new place I'm going is in downtown Palo Alto, where I'll have way less space for the same price, but all that money is really going to being two blocks from the main street and 4 blocks from the train station.

I still have this urge to manage my life and all my hobbies so I can feel like I have some sort of master plan/schedule/予定 that guides my entire life. But that's not really possible, so instead I've just accepted that I'm not going to have the energy to do much more than cycle, work, and goof around a little. I would like to do some Japanese conversation classes and/or music lessons, though. (I've always felt a little jealous of Mike for getting so much done.)

Probably the coolest thing this summer, besides getting better at driving (and working at Facebook), was watching the entire 20th Century Boys trilogy in Japantown over the course of three weeks. Happily, it only makes me want to read the comics even more. Naoki Urasawa is a genius. If you get the chance, you should check it out. It's a little ridiculous, but totally awesome.
