The end of another year. It's always surprising the way these things just fly by. I don't have any concrete plans for tonight because I'm lazy but I'm sure I'll be with friends somewhere, hopefully not rolling on the ground drunk. But I keep no promises. Keeping up with tradition, I present my 2010 meme.
- What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
I was going to say all the boring things like wrote a 100 page report by myself, worked in a team with people I didn't know, survived on two hours of sleep for three days, but there's plenty of exciting things too. I TOUCHED SNOW, I WENT SKIING, I FELL IN THE SNOW. I flew to another state and back in a day. I went into a Chanel boutique. I went to a wedding. I went to the beach at night.
- Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I wanted to knock off 10 Books of the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die list. Considering that I only managed to read nine books this year, it's safe to say I failed at that. There will be no New Years' resolutions for me next year because I always forget what they are and never end up doing them.
- Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one, but I'll finally have a different answer for this in next year's meme!
- Did anyone close to you die?
I feel extremely close to Lee Alexander McQueen.
- What countries did you visit?
None, I spent the entire year in Australia.
- What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A steady income would seriously be really nice.
- What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
17 November - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 movie came out. I'm so proud of the huge geek that I am.
- What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing my final year group project (the one where I build a building), getting a High Distinction on the group report I wrote by myself on no sleep in ten hours and not dying throughout the entire process. Also, sort of made me smile when I someone forwarded my report to Arup and I got a cc back saying "It's better than anything I've seen from our department."
- What was your biggest failure?
Thinking I could ace probability math by neglecting it completely and failing in the process. Also, being a pretty big asshole through all the stressfull times.
- Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes. Maybe I'll beat it next year.
- What was the best thing you bought?
Chanel necklace, orange tutu, Lisa Ho dress and old books, especially the books.
- Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My university friends, especially Steve, who put up with me whining, swearing and generally just being shitty everytime an assignment was due. And Karlson who doesn't hate me for the fact that I neglect him for months at a time.
- Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My lame groupmates who don't understand the concept of time management and this one guy in third year civil engineering, who's a friend of a friend, that insists on making my life just that little bit more harder by pushing me into things. IDEK, it's like, are you trying to flirt with me or do you hate me?
- Where did most of your money go?
Clothes. Food. Clothes.
- What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Christmas!!! My weekly Glee fix and anything Darren Criss related.
- What song will always remind you of 2010?
TEENAGE DREAMS BY DARREN CRISS. What? Don't judge me. But, no really, I got into showtunes really bad. Blame Glee. Mr Cellophane from Chicago (because I play it almost everyday since it makes my brother want to grate his ears off), Seasons of Love from Rent and All I Ask from the Phantom of the Opera. Also, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas was my Christmas song of 2010.
- Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I think I was happier this time last year, only because I wasn't about to leave home for six months.
b) thinner or fatter? About the same.
c) richer or poorer? No job + Chanel = poorer.
- What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading books and not random fic.
- What do you wish you'd done less of?
Saying no to things.
- How will you be spending NYE?.
Probably at a house party.
- Did you fall in love in 2010?
Fell in love with Darren Criss and rayslady
- How many one-night stands?
Many. With Darren Criss. Over Youtube.
- What was your favourite TV programme?
It's like this meme wants me to talk about Glee.
- Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, I dislike the same people as I did last year.
- What was the best book you read?
The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and English Passengers by Matthew Kneale
- What was your greatest musical discovery?
Vienna Teng and all the songs from Rent.
- What did you want and get?
Clothes, shoes and books aside, I wanted a job with Arup so I could a) get money and b) leech off them for my individual final year project, which I got.
- What did you want and not get?
Wanted to pass all my subjects, unfortuantly that didn't happen.
- What was your favourite film of this year?
Everyone says Inception, but I really prefer films that don't make me want to rip my brains out. Instead I'll say Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, because hello, it's me. How To Train A Dragon made me want to get a dragon and Get Him to the Greek was probably the funniest movie I've ever seen.
- What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21, which isn't half as interesting as turning 21 in the good ol' States because they let us drink and gamble ourselves silly three years earlier. No excessive shenanigans this year, just the BEST DINNER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
- What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Watching Glee earlier in the year, then I could have spent the last year laughing myself silly. Jokes aside, having better time management skills always seem to be applicable for this question.
- How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
I bought a lot of 50's style skirts..need moar plz.
- What kept you sane? Friday Night Dinners with Reyan.
- Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Was there anyone I didn't fall in love with? What can I say? I'm easy to impress. I spent the entire first half of this year trying to convince myself that Draco Malfoy is a fictional character, therefore he does not exist therefore you cannot marry him, move into his mansion and make lots of pretty blue-eyed babies with him. Then I fell in love with Richard Armitage because apparently I have a thing for beautiful noses. Then I discovered Glee and I stopped being sane and started making noises that only dogs and dolphins can understand because NGHHHHHH DARREN CRISS WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER. I'd say I have a pretty big boner for Chris Colfer and Neil Patrick Harris too, but they're gay so there aren't any obvious options for me there, other than getting a sex change.
- What political issue stirred you the most?
The repeal for Don't Ask Don't Tell in America. And also everything climate change related, mostly that politicans and polluting industries seem to enjoy cockblocking every emission trading scheme that gets proposed. Grow up, people.
- Who did you miss?
Harry Potter. And friends that I didn't get to see because I had bad time management skills and had to camp out in my room for days finishing assignments.
- Who was the best new person you met?
I met some pretty nice guys (excluding that one guy from 13) from third year civil engineering who tried to help me pass that probability subject, although it would have helped if I had bothered studying too..And also rayslady whom shares my love of capslock, Eddie Redmayne and gaydom love between pretty pretty boys.
- Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
There are more important things than work. You learn more by listening. If you don't try hard you'll never get that Chanel handbag.
