Tellus Science Museum rocks my world. And their annual "Night at the Museum" event was the perfect geek family outing. With more than 40 costumed characters from science *and* science fiction, including Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, and the the entire crew of the Serenity, it was like DragonCon Lite. A few years ago, the call went out over LJ that a new parade group was looking for a few good elements. The periodic table has been my home on DragonCon Saturday mornings ever since. That first year I was aluminum; I've spent the last three years as carbon, but I'm thinking it might be time for a change next year. Phosphorus, maybe?

I earned my Ubermom points yesterday, and no mistake.  Z has been interested in chemistry lately, so I picked up some litmus paper and a little chemistry experiment kit from the teacher supply store.  We spent the afternoon testing the contents of the kitchen for acidity, and then went upstairs to crack open the experiment kit.  It proved to ( Read more... )

Abstract:

Eminent scholars J. M. Lanterman and Z. X. Lanterman today ran a controlled experiment testing the effects of bell size and order when rolling down a spiral path marble run.

Methods:

3 different sized bells were rolled down a spiral marble run, alone and in different combinations. Results were recorded and compared.
