I may have mentioned that Z is obsessed with Mario. Mario, Mario, Mario. Did I mention Mario? Last year, we hit the thrift store and came home with a red shirt, overalls, and a red baseball cap, which I adorned with a big M. Yay, Ubermom!
Ha. This year, I asked what he wanted to be for Halloween, and the answer, of course, was Mario. But it didn't stop there. "Daddy can be Luigi! And you can be Princess Peach, Mommy!" Oh, boy.
Well, what's the point of having me as a mom if you don't get costumes out of the deal? Consequently, Aaron is now in possession of a green t-shirt and a green cap with an L, proudly hand-drawn by Z. No overalls, because Aaron in layers is unhappy Aaron, but we figure jeans will be ok.
And me? Well, that's the hard part. Princess Peach wears a big pink ballgown. Pink. Very pink. I? Do not wear pink. But because I am Awesome Costuming Ubermom, we have now been to six thrift stores in search of a pink formal in my size. So far the best we've done is a bright fuchsia nightgown. You know how I don't wear pink? I emphatically do not wear fuchsia. Since Princess Peach doesn't either, I have spent this week trying different methods of bleaching out a nylon nightgown without melting the fabric. Two days hanging in direct sunlight, liberally sprayed with lemon juice, has not dented the fuchsia horror. It's currently soaking in a tub of water and oxygen-based bleach, but so far no luck. Still fuchsia.
There are still a couple weeks til Halloween, and a couple thrift stores I haven't tried yet, so there may still be hope. But if not--fuchsia.
(To make up for it, Z helped me make the crown out of craft foam, gold paint, and plastic jewels, and it actually looks pretty good.)
