What are your thoughts on monogamy?
Monogamy? It’s an ideal to work for.
And no, I don’t need a lecture. Hear me out. I said ideal. That means that it’s not a given but something to work for.
I know I’ve had my issues with it. Yes, I had an affair with a married man. Yes, I slept with Woody while I was dating JD. But… There’s one big detail you’re missing there.
Even bigger than the fact that we didn’t have any commitments to each other.
No children were involved.
If I ever get married and/or have children, that’s it. No one other than the child’s father unless he’s killed or we split up. No one at the same time. No child deserves that.
That feeling of having the rug pulled out from under them when they realize that Mommy’s not with Daddy…but she’s laughing. That knowledge that love isn’t safe; that your safe home isn’t all that safe after all.
Having children changes everything. At that point, monogamy becomes a necessity.
Until then, it’s an ideal.
