Name one thing about human nature that puzzles you.
Lying. The fact that some, perhaps even most people have no trouble lying to others. It doesn’t even seem to phase them.
Now, don’t misunderstand. I don’t mean little white lies like “Yes, that tie is good” or “Oh yeah, that talk the other night really helped”. Everyone does that. Yes, everyone.
I’m talking big, life-changing lies. Like “Your mother had a miscarriage when you were five and she went crazy and I put her in Summit View for a while.” And the other stuff about her. Her affair… Her self-mutilation… What the hell happened to her…
How could a father keep that information from his daughter? I mean, psychiatric stuff can be genetic. And while we’re on the subject of genes… How about the fact that Mom had a child before me…a child that you gave away and never looked back. A child that was the product of an affair. An affair that continued…at least after I was born. How do we even know for sure…
Never mind. It’s not like you’ll tell me the truth anyway.
