So last night I went to the Onyx Theatre and saw a play. It's called Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. (And yes I have seen the movie and loved it which is why I wanted to see this play so badly.) It was Fantastic! I cannot praise it enough. It's a small theatre which seats about 98 people and it's stuck behind another store. At first I thought "Oh no, this can't be good" but from the first note until the last I was entranced. Every actor was deadon with their parts and their voices were amazing. They had a live orchestra that play beautifully. The violins were so sweet and eerie. The actor who played Sweeney gave me the creeps. The razors looked real and when he sliced the throats and red sprayed out from the razor...shiver. The actors interacted a bit with the audience. When they sang "A Little Priest" they pointed at audience members as if contemplating eating us. They really made the audience feel involved. Their costumes were perfect also and set in the right period. I swear this could be on Broadway! I have never gone to a play and liked it so much that I wanted to go again. I may have loved the play and was glad I went but not to go back. Until now! I'm seeing it again with Jules who came out for the funeral from NYC and is staying until Tuesday. I can't wait until 8 tonight.
