Fall events: When it rains, it pours

Fall event season has been quite strong this year. I've done appearances about every week or every other week since September. I've recapped a selection below. Most of them were dogs. *sigh* CATlanta needs more feline mascots!

One gig involved learning to ride a Segway miniPro. I was loaned what I called "the faceplant machine" for three weeks. Started with doughnuts in the living room, then to the inclined driveway, and finally graduating to the cul-de-sac. On a lovely Saturday morning, I donned yet another dog costume, and took part in a parade riding the Segway. And I didn't die, whew! (Didn't faceplant either)

A nearby town has a mascot for their big events. (Guess what species... yup, another dog!) I started working with the town last year and keep getting invited to more events. What's really special about these gigs isn't necessarily the character itself, but the crowds... Large enthusiastic crowds!

Had an opportunity to reprise a bucket-list character. It involved taking off work and driving downtown, but it was totally worth it. I got to be a dopey dog, posing for photos in front of a machine of mystery. The other promotions staff was just there for the hours, but I was in my briar patch.

Of course, the mane event has been out and about too. He's now 7 years old and just as obnoxious as ever. Worked an event at the county fairgrounds. Attendance was low due to relentless rain, but it meant that we could spend more time with each kid who did show. Saber Glo decked out her Vikaber character in ringleader attire, and since we were at the fairgrounds, I had to get a photo of being a circus lion.

Last, but not least, I attended Anthro Southeast. A rare Saturday presented itself and I made hasty plans for a Chattanooga day trip. Being a day trip, I was only in suit for about 2½ hours, but I did my best to make it count. ASE was 2nd-year con with lots of new faces... New faces that had never experienced the wild energy a certain kat can unleash. (Which may have been overkill, oh well.) In a way, this 1004-attendee con was like my experienced self being transported back to my first FWA 12 years ago. Maybe I made a positive memory for someone like those I had back in the day. Had some nice conversation at the mascot performance panel and the IT meetup. After a BBQ dinner with Froboy and Ed Collie, it was time for the rainy drive home. The Niro handled it quite nicely.

cons, niro, fursuiting, mascotting
