Trying to clean my desk, but can only manage one third of it. Should clean, like, the whole house and then my head. But don't think I can manage that today either. It's a national public holiday today to celebrate our nation biscuit, the Anzac biscuit. Nom.

7. Billy Idol - Rebel Yell.
In the midnight hour, she cried more, more, more. With a rebel yell, she cried more, more, more. What more do you need to know? It also doesn't hurt that Billy Idol reminds me of Spike. (Or is it the other way around?) He tries to hard to be badass, it's just too sweet!
6. The White Stripes - Little Ghost.
I think I like this one for the lolz. A love story that is doomed because one of the couple is a ghost. It's crack and it speaks to my heart.
5. Angus and Julia Stone - Soldier. I'm a soldier, but I don't know how to fight. I'm your best friend, but I'm scared to see you tonight. I'm the darkness, but I want to be the light. Oh how I want to be. It's not on ewtube but I can link you to another one of their's I really quite like: Hollywood (ooh, slide guitar!). Maybe I like them because the way she sings reminds me of Jen.
4. Jarvis Cocker - Baby's Coming Back to Me.
I love Jarvis. And I love this song. Whenever I put this album on, I always have to give this one a couple of listens and then feel quietly wistful to myself.
3. Martha Wainwright - Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole.
I just love Martha. I'm hanging out for her new CD. You probably all know this song already, but it's one of those ones I do like singing as I ride along on my bike. It's a ripper. I'm young and I'm strong but I feel old and tired.
2. The GetUp Mob! - From Little Things Big Things Grow.
This really moves me even though it's a bit of mishmash of singers and lyrics and the words of two of our Prime Ministers, Paul Keating and Kevin Rudd. Frankly, I think Rudd is pretty awesome and the day he apologised to the stolen generation, I was proud to be an Aussie and proud to have him as our PM. And this song reminds me of that.
1. Mia Dyson - This Country. I love Mia Dyson's voice. For example, this song: Never Felt Young. Can she please be my girlfriend now? The lyrics of This Country are important, particularly for today. (lookit me, gettin' all political on your arse!) Can't find it on ewtube unfortunately, but if you can find it, it's worth a listen. It goes: This country isn't mine. It was stolen before my time by folks that look like me. I was born of their legacy. ... Every year that comes around, we line the streets, standing proud, and we honour fallen men, hands on hearts, 'lest we forget'. But in the papers we demand that the folks who lost their land, children, stolen history, banned, should forget and move on now. Mend baby mend, heal child heal.
