Hari ini saya sudah menterjemahkan kepada bahasa inggeris sepucuk surat lama dari Melaka yang ditulis di huruf jawi. Dahulu ini, saya penterjemah bahasa arab pada pekerjaan ini; hari ini kali yang pertama saya menterjemahkan bahasa melayu padanya. Semua lain penterjemah-penterjemah melayu di syarikat kami tidak boleh baca tulisan jawi. Saya sahaja

Mmm...Yes! I was wondering about that *VBG* Glad to hear that you're working at something that tickles your fancy- I'd often thought that translation might be your metier, given how hard a good translator can be to find. My other half moans loud and long about this when work projects involve languages outside his normal range!

If you can manage the more abstruse languages OF COURSE you should get a pay rise...forthwith if not sooner!

BTW, I loved your video- your voice is amazing and you're looking great :o)

I wasn't aware you had a new job, so I want to congratulate you! (And do a little happy dance and some YAYing on your behalf...) I'm so glad you've found people who appreciate you, for you have always been valuable and useful--and very very brainy!--so of course you should have a pay raise. :)

Well... actually the work is infrequent and the pay is crap. I get paid by the word, not by the hour, so if I have to struggle to decipher somebody's illegible scribbles, it works out to hours of hard work for approximately minimum wage per hour. It earns me only $50 a week or so-- in the weeks when I get any work. I do it from home and it would make a nice sideline if I had a full time job. Meanwhile, I've started temping to actually, you know, pay the bills. My career has been demolished and I've just begun to rebuild it from the ground up. Today is a significant accomplishment I can build upon. In my former charmed existence, I had earned a brilliant reputation for skills like this. It's like playing snakes and ladders, and one big-ass snake just dropped me way down... today's accomplishment was a nice little ladder...

Have you thought of advertising locally as a freelance? This is how I got started on my present line of work and your skills are eminently transferable! Not everyone needs a historian, but lots of folks need a linguist......
