I wasn't really in the mood for Bangkok my first day there, but I was even less in the mood for another bus ride, so I decided to try and make the best of it. Joe wanted to show me the Grand Palace himself, so I started in the morning by wandering a bit, and then visiting the National Museum. It wasn't terribly exciting, but it was an OK way to kill some time. I then wandered in the direction of Wat Pho, a temple located near the Grand Palace. The affiliated massage school is considered the best in Thailand, and I decided a massage sounded like a pretty good idea. I spent an hour or so wandering the grounds, and then went for the massage, which cost about $10 for an hour. Thai massage kind of huts while they're doing it-imagine someone's knuckle or elbow digging into your thigh muscles over and over again-but it feels good when it's over. Unless they've accidentally turned your head too far and pinched a nerve. When they do that, it hurts for a week, which isn't so much fun. But at least it was an experience.
