I don't really have much to say about my time in Saigon. I was there primarily to visit my friend Becky, who had class in the mornings. The first day I walked around the city a bit, but wasn't really interested in any of the tourist attractions and so went back to the hotel fairly soon. It was cooler and less humid than Hanoi, but still not “cool” or “dry”. Mostly we hung out in cafes that had WiFi, while Becky worked on her LSA abstract and I tried to figure out how to get to Cambodia. We ate in some good restaurants, and I continued my quest for a bag like the one I'd seen in Hanoi. I found one I liked reasonably well, as well as a very pretty scarf to add to my growing collection of very pretty scarves. Let's just say that I won't have to go scarf shopping for quite some time, and I haven't even gotten to India yet. We also got pedicures, though it was really just re-painting of toenails, rather than the whole foot massage thing. But it only cost a couple bucks, so I didn't complain. My last day there, I started coming down with a cold-a sore throat and runny nose-that was also accompanied by a mild fever. It was that last part that worried me, because I did not want to get quarantined by the Cambodians at the border. But the fever never got very high and was gone by morning, so I stuck with my plan to head out on Saturday morning, even though I was still feeling kind of crappy.
