On the 15 - 17 April 2008, the
Peace Boat was in Sydney. I got to go up, attend the peace conference that was run in conjunction, '
Iraq, Never Again: Ending War, Building Peace' and met with Meri Joyce and Johanna Stratton from Peace Boat.
I've been working with Meri and Johanna on their site for the
Northeast Asia Online Peace Forum, a part of the
Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC). Since they are based in Japan and I am based in Melbourne, it was very nice to meet them face to face.
The Peace Boat was awesome! Imagine a full size cruise liner, taking about 900 people around the world for 3 months, talking to them about peace issues. Now imagine a non-profit organisation that has the capability to arrange that. On an on-going basis. For years. Amazing, no?
Anyway, it was lovely to see it docked in Sydney Harbour, right beside the coathanger.
