Patrolling in Gotham

Sep 14, 2005 23:47

Well, the Bug was supposed to stay in mothballs, but Ted's feeling the need for something resembling a patrol. He'll just stop people from robbing old ladies in downtown Gotham. He can handle that. Maybe he can break some bad guy's nose before Babs notices. Or the League decides to vote on whether he's allowed to or not.

He misses the League of Misfits or whatever Max had started. Without the big ole intimidating Pillars of Virtue and Justice making everyone else feel like stupidly human and flawed. Not that it was their fault but it was hard to be the polar opposite of Superman or Wonder Woman. Or heck, just a super hero trying to do the level best they can. Particularly if you were just some guy who promised his professor to dress up like a beetle and save people. Ted felt lucky enough to have lived this long let along succeeded even on a small level. And he still was mistaken for Aquaman.

Ugh. Arthur. What the hell was up with that? Although he couldn't quite play the guy for ditching everyone else to be with his finny friends.

And Ted remembers getting kicked out of that League. With Tora. For no reason really except being useless. And having nowhere to go. What else was there? A desk job?

There's not many rules in life but there are obvious ones. Like friends shouldn't get rid of friends or give them fruitcake. He's not too sure he wants to be a part of a group that won't include the people he'd give his left lung to work with again.

Whatever. Maybe he'll just call up Guy and Booster later and go to a bar. That might be good.

Ah ha! A young hooligan stealing a woman's purse. Looks like a job for a retired superhero!

question, blue beetle
