(no subject)

Cassie Sandsmark paces around her living room, nervous. She’s got her latest History paper clutched in her hand, with a broad A+ written across the top, and she’s practicing her best Mommy-I-love-you smile. The last time she’d had one of those plastered on her face, she’d asked her mom to let her get her belly button pierced. That time, she’d been holding an A-grade English paper. But Cassie was already good in English. If there was any one subject in which the blonde teenager did not excel, it was History. She loved the ancient stuff, but the second they hit the Middle Ages and beyond, Cassie had zoned out.

Granted, she needed something now. Something important. Something that wasn’t as stupid or as trivial as her bellybutton piercing.

Cassie glances at the clock. Mom should be home from the museum any moment now. She has tea brewing, and there’s a fresh plate of butter cookies cooling on the kitchen table. Suck-up food. Along with suck-up grades.

Please, Mom. Just say yes to what I’m going to ask you. And please don’t get upset and take away my powers.

She bites her lip as she hears a key turning the lock.

Mom’s home.

meet the folks, wonder girl
