the fiasco is finally over...or is it

On the one hand, we started seriously looking for apartments about two weeks ago. That isn't very long, especially since we sign the lease on Thursday (4 days...eek!). All in all it was a fairly quick process once we got down to business. I thought it would also be fun. We had almost a full month to look around and see what was available and make up our minds once we found an awesome apartment that we both wanted. Looking back on it, parts were fun, but it was decidedly NOT painless. Noone warns you that you both might have totally opposite opinions about places and people. Noone tells you that the market really is weak right now-people want to sell what they have right now...to you or to the next person who walks down the street. We ended up accepting the first apartment we looked at...almost exactly a week after we looked at it...and almost exactly a week ago today.

I don't know how to go into detail about the process...how we saw almost ten apartments in one week, how we tried to imagine where he might get a job so we could look around there, how we accepted one (that we're not going with), decided to accept the one we ended up with only to find that it would possibly be rented by someone else, how we then found out that the apartment was still available, how we finally accepted that one. Needless to say it has been a real roller coaster ride. We fought almost every day that week. We almost broke up at least twice. We had so many misunderstandings...made worse by the idiot who will be our new landlord. I have to say I'm glad its over. I'm also thrilled to be going through all this with Bogie...if I have to have an idiot for a landlord (and an apartment that really is pretty cute despite all its shortcomings), I'm ecstatic that he will share every day of it with me. It also helps that he has agreed to deal with our lovely landlord so that I don't have to.

Anyway after going through all that to find an apartment, we needed to buy a refrigerator. We could have rented the old, existing refrigerator and paid for any repairs...but we both feel safer and more comfortable with a new fridge. If its gonna belong to us, it might as well be new. We found out the measurements and decided to get a side by side. Its more expensive but it'll be worth it to be able to fully open the refrigerator doors (the kitchen is seriously that small). We did research, we looked online and in the store, and yesterday I put $1000 on my credit card in exchange for a brand new refrigerator. Seriously, how old am I?! I just bought my first major household appliance...but I don't own a house yet. Talk about becoming a grown up. It doesn't get delivered until almost a week af ter we start moving in either...don't know exactly how thats going to work. It doesn't seem like much of a story when I attempt to write it all down. I guess its pretty typical, boring stuff for you to read, but its been anything but boring for the two of us who have lived through it the past two weeks.

Now I have to pack all of my not so wordly possessions. I started yesterday, and to tell you the truth it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There is definitely a LOT left to pack though. Bogie doesn't really even know what hes in for. Oh well...as one fiasco ends, another begins.
