It's in the high 50s already, and projected to reach 68 degrees later this afternoon here in beautiful Ventura. While I normally avoid the sun like a vampire, I must confess to taking great pleasure in sitting here in the guest room at my parents' house by the garden window, soaking up the heat and light. Since I know I have plenty of rain to come home to, I don't think I'll feel too guilty about enjoying a week of blue skies and sunny days!
My folks have been keeping me super busy as always when I visit -- Mom's not too good at just sitting still and relaxing! (I'm not sure where I got my sloth from, but definitely not her!) The day I flew in we spent in Santa Barbara, walking around the lagoon at UCSB and getting lunch at the Sojourner (a great organic restaurant just off State St). In the evening we went to a meditation group, which was very awesome; especially because I got to see our old family friend Dori! Yesterday we went to a family counseling session and then to the Getty Villa in Malibu. The Getty Villa is part of the Getty Museum, and focuses on Greek, Roman, and Etruscan art. What a treat! One of my first loves as a child was Greek mythology, so seeing things like a full temple of Herakles was a real experience.
This morning I got up painfully early for a vacation to go to a 7:45am yoga class, which was totally worth suffering through sunrise on a day off. :-) I've got another hour with my therapist in a bit, then a lunch party with some of my parents' friends and a massage in the evening. Yeah, life's hard. ::grin::
This has been a pretty emotional visit so far, lots of traumas coming up and being discussed, but it's really good to be with my folks. They give me interesting perspectives on things, especially my dad who has been through many of the same issues as I have.
Now, time for a little WoW before the next whirlwind starts!
Pleasant somethings!
