We visited the Smithsonian National Museum of American History the other day. The museum itself is spectacular, with many, many very moving pieces on display. However, the museum as a whole left me feeling very frustrated. ( And I'll tell you why behind the cut. )

CNN is currently running a story about a 20th Century travel guide that listed safe places for African Americans to go. The story was very interesting to me, not just from a historical perspective, but because I immediately saw parallels to today's websites that are dedicated to listing safe places for lesbian and gay travelers ( Read more... )

I just want to say, I've also never burned a Qur'an. In fact, unlike Rev. Terry Jones, I've never even considered burning a Qur'an. In fact, my whole life I've respected the Muslim faith -- despite the elements of it with which I disagree -- and never once blamed the faith for any of America's problems. So, why isn't anyone buying me a new car?
