The boyfriend and I got back in one piece last night (unless you count the piece I took out of Colin's hide because he was pissed at waiting for the ferry and decided to take it out on all and sundry). I did find something nice to wear - in the end I only needed to buy a plain skirt to go with one of my (very orange and yellow) tops.
The wedding was held in Gibsons, BC which was where my friend's parents lived and the ceremony was held in their backyard. The ceremony was beautiful and fascinating - the bride is Doukhobor and the groom is Iranian so they decided to incorporate elements of both cultures into the wedding. A good chunk of the ceremony was either in Russian or Farsi (Persian) but they tried to explain or translate as much of it for us English-speakers as they could. It was wonderful to see my friends looking so lovely and happy - the bride in particular was absolutely radiant.
The rest of the time Colin and I poked around Gibsons and hung out on the beach. We didn't book far enough in advance (Gibsons and the rest of the Sunshine Coast is a popular tourist destination in the summer) so all the cheap places were taken. We ended up staying two night in the Booniebrook Lodge which was a lovely, historic, and totally beyond out means, bed and breakfast. We were in 'Romance Suit C' which at least was suitably conducive to romance. ;) The food was excellent to and among other things I had the tastiest and freshest mussels I've ever eaten.
The town of Gibsons itself is quaint, interesting, and beautiful, and I would have stayed there longer if we could afford it. On the day we left we had breakfast/lunch at Molly's Reach which was formerly a set for the TV show
The Beachcombers. Unfortunately on the way back we got stuck in the mad Sunday rush to get back home and we had to wait through two ferry sailings to get across - hence the boyfriend-creature's bitchiness.
