scotchsourwas looking for some music with traditional Japanese instruments--one of the best bands I know for mixing the traditional sound of the shamisen with a more modern musical sensibility are the Yoshida Brothers from Okinawa, so I thought I'd put up a few of their tracks here.
FrontierKodoOld/New And here are a few koto songs from an album of lullabies I have, Oyasumi, by Aiko Shimada and Elizabeth Taverner.
Hatsu Yuki (First Snow)--instrumental
Sakura, SakuraKomoriuta (Lullaby)
And just to keep the people here for superhero songs happy (*grin*), here's an awesomely goofy song by a band called "Super XX Man" (really!),
"Rain Keeps on Fallin'." I can't help but see it as one of those "eh, what the hell" songs I imagine Batman singing to himself sometimes. The lyrics aren't available anywhere online (damn my taste for incredibly obscure songs!) but here's my transcription of them:
When the sun goes down,
And all the lights in town go off
Will you be my only star
In the middle of the dark, dark night?
I see the moon is up and bright
It's casting shadows in my wall
Though Lord knows I ain't feeling right
I'm going searching for the truth
in this dark, dark night.
And when the moon casts its shadow
On my wall, on my wall
I get the feeling that this feeling
Yeah this feeling's gonna change me somehow, somehow.
And I remember
When our love was as cold as December.
And the rain it just keeps falling
yeah the rain it just keeps falling on my head,
And I'm glad that I'm not dead.
And I know I must keep crawling
yeah I know I must keep crawling
Toward your love, cause I know that I'm not dead.
And the rain it just keeps falling
yeah the rain it just keeps falling on my head,
And I'm glad that I'm not dead.
And when the moon casts its shadow
On my wall, on my wall
I get the feeling that this feeling
Yeah this feeling's gonna change me somehow, somehow.
Somehow, somehow, somehow, somehow, somehow...
