Thursday
qarylla and I exchanged some presents took Saru-chan to
middle_sis' condo, where she would stay while we were gone. We got horribly lost on the way, and the kitty did not enjoy the ride very much, but eventually we made it. The fuzzball quickly found a hiding place under a couch, which she apparently left at some point, although she was there when we picked her up (and wouldn't come out until we lifted the couch).
After that, we headed to the home of
queenofpink77,
mr_q_o_p and
jr_psykira for a holiday party. It was fairly low-key, with food and hanging out. There was Secret Santa, though my recipient/qarylla's given (jr_psykira) was absent. We played Super Muchkin, which qarylla got for He-Who-Must-Not-Be-On-Time, well past bedtime.
On the way out the door, we had a brief discussion of next year's gaming. kirbymeister will be running BESM d20 at some point, but it looks like HWMNBOT will get a turn first for World's Largest Dungeon. Neither qarylla or I will be stuck playing the cleric! And we both have concepts that should be fun. More weapons = more fun! In any case, there's more work to do, though very little for me, and I will be glad to get back into gaing on the other side of the screen.
qarylla and I decided to stay up for our travel Friday rather than try to sleep for 4 hours and then get up and going. I took the opportunity to try to finish Dragon Quest VIII before leaving, but failed. It was rough, because the game practically told me that the final boss was next when I had to save and head out.
qarylla and I decided to fly out of Providence, so the trip to Pennsylvania involved a train, two buses and two planes, with some car on either end to taste. Things went fairly smoothly in both directions, although we were targeted for super-extra searching (my beard and her knitting needles make us terrorists), and we had to wait for almost 2 hours between landing in Providence Monday night and catching the bus back to Boston.
Friday evening was mostly relaxing with my family. Saturday qarylla and I went to lovely Meadville, where I got to see Katyakat (who desperately needs an LJ) and her family. qarylla got a fierce face-washing from their dog, and I was even accepted by the pets. I got to finish not last at Scrabble twice and was granted the honor of escorting the females to a craft store. After it was all over, we picked up my grandfather and headed home for dinner, presents and music (including, unfortunately,
the most depressing Christmas song ever). Sunday was mostly lazy, and included more Law & Order than is reasonable. Moday I got to see my Best Man and eat at
Quaker Steak & Lube before braving the trip home.
qarylla and I got home in the first few minutes of Tuesday morning, opened the rest of our gifts to each other and stayed up far later than we should have. The rest of Tuesday involved setting up and testing my new
Cobalt Flux dance platform and cleaning. We picked up the kitty from middle_sis and endured another vicious meowing and retired early.
My friends and family rock, most recently evidenced by the following items which have come into my possession:
- Firefly and Serentiy DVDs, hand-knit socks and Schnapps chocolates from qarylla
- a digital camera and memory card, work clothes, gift cards and enough money for half of the Cobalt Flux pad from my parents
- a wooden go set from my brother and his girlfriend
- a light scarf from Katyakat (which I can still use, as the Hufflepuff scarf is best used at -10° F or below)
- Pirattitude! from
meranthi and
thastygliax
- volumes 2 and 3 of Bleach, plus a gift card for the first if it can be located, from my Secret Santa, Little Brother
- Black Tiger playing cards and chocolate-covered cherries from the Magian and the Robogoat
- Mrs. Pink Tentacle Worm Feepanowsky from the Oddball Artist and her husband
This morning I weighed 182.3 pounds, exactly the same as the morning of my birthday. With New Year's looking to be festivity-free and just one birthday left in the near future, I think I can consider this holiday season. Tonight I have to buy actual dancing shoes because the platform is not designed for socks/bare feet. After that, back to the grindstone! More Saru-chans must be eliminated!
And finally, a meme stolen from
georgy:
Go to your Calendar and find the first entry for each month of 2005. Post the first line of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review."
January: [screenshot from We ♥ Katamari that no longer exists]
February: The symmetry of my wedding party has been broken up by the job market.
March: I've had various songs from Jesus Christ Superstar in my head for a week or so.
April: Times woken up by whiny cat last night: 4
May: Thursday and Friday nights, qarylla was off doing the things she does, and I was left at home, ostensibly to shop and clean the condo for guests.
June: My imported
Japanese games are coming tomorrow.
July: I was up waaaaay too lat Wednesday night making characters for
true20pern, especially since I decided to take the subway instead of drive.
August: I like thunderstorms, but only when they're not too violent to sleep through or I don't have to be up at a certain time the next morning.
September: Apparently, at the moment, the Superdome is on fire, but they can't evacuate because people are firing at the helicopters that are supposed to be airlifting people out.
October: I bought two pairs of size x-2 pants on Thursday.
November: In my enthusiasm about the various things going on Veteran's Day weekend (the most wonderful time of the year, no matter what anyone else tells you), I am getting dangerously close to overbooking myself.
December: Interview accomplished.
