Friday I took the day off from work, because the Alzheimer's Association was filming my family for an internal video. It was so interesting! There was a woman from the Association and a three-man crew -- director, camera, sound. They were all super nice, and it was fascinating seeing how they positioned everything in my parents' small apartment, along with all of the gear and everything. They filmed my parents in the living room, with the furniture re-arranged, and me in the den. I was sitting just inside the room, with the camera just outside the room, so there was kind of a far-away backdrop of a bookcase and stuff. Then they filmed b-roll of my parents cooking in the kitchen, and the three of us talking in the living room. Some of the interview part was kind of hard, but I kind of like talking about it, and I heard some stuff from my parents I didn't know. The good (?) news is that I bet they don't use the parts where we cried, because the event is supposed to be called, "A Reason To Hope" or some shit. I think the camera man was kind of giving me the eye -- he was very nice looking -- but of course, he had been looking at me for an hour, while I worked really hard at not looking at him! Anyway, so that was fun.
And last night, I went to a burlesque show! It was OK, although hard to see because of the room set-up. It was a female troupe and a male troupe, with some numbers together. Most of them were funny, and I only thought a couple were actually sexy, but I would love to know how to make those tassels spin! The penultimate performer was a drag queen, and seriously better than anyone else who had been on stage before. I would definitely rather go to a drag show than this again, although it was a good amount of entertainment for the $12 ticket. The emcee was hilarious -- a female comedian doing an old-lady character, which I guess is her usual schtick? I don't know, but the character is on the "Best in Boston" ballot from the Pheonix. I was with a nice sub-group of the Hairpin ladies, and we were saying we should definitely do more outings like this, so that's nice. Up next, probably a RuPaul's Drag Race viewing party. Good times.
