at least that's the impression I've gotten, as I've been unable to login since arriving in Africa. As such I am long overdue chronicling our whirlwind tour of Spain. So, to recap:
On February 2nd we took the overnight Elipsos Trenhotel from Blois, France to Madrid. We got a really good deal on it but it was the most uncomfortable overnight train ride I have ever experienced, and that includes the trains in Italy. which is saying something.
Karolyn and Bryan flew into Madrid at the same time our train arrived and we headed to Toledo, hereafter to be known as 'home of the world's most narrow streets.'
see here. words cannot describe.
Following Toledo, which I should mention is more correctly known as the home to spain's best marzipan, we drove down to Granada. After a visit to the Alhambra (fyi: NOT wheelchair friendly) the night was spent drinking heavily and eating tapas.
The next day we drove down the coast to Nerja, an unbelievably gorgeous hillside town that I wish we had more time to explore. This was Sunday, however, and the day that we were due to check into our resort in Estepona, generously provided to us for the week by my amazing stepfather. Our HUGE apartment had an ocean view and we spent the majority of our time there in the pool/hot tub/sauna/steam room or lounging around in our robes, drinking mimosas and catching up. Day trips included Ronda, a town reached only by treacherously narrow mountain roads; Gibraltar, where a monkey climbed on me; and Malaga. Overall a most amazing week.
After sad goodbyes all around, our friends drove off into the sunset & we had one night to prepare for the nightmare that is Tangier (of course, we didn't know it was going to be a nightmare at the time). This recap is probably woefully lacking in detail but as it's now three weeks later I can't be expected to remember everything/anything.
Morocco is now behind us completely; we flew into Gatwick the night before last and are spending the weekend with Kip and Paul. Kip made me sushi last night and we just installed a new washing machine in the kitchen. Ah, civilization.
