Our phone rang at 10:30pm tonight ... late enough for me to wonder who was calling this late!
We have caller display but I didn't recognize the number so answered with concern. It turned out to be my manager (G), to tell me that his manager (P) had died this afternoon. He didn't want us to find out from the news in the morning. He appears to have been involved in a Kayaking accident
still trying to take the news in ... I have worked for G and P since 2003 and got on well with P. He was one of those managers who talked alot of management-speak. But I think genuinely wanted to do the best by his people and just drew on the jargon as a way of expressing his ideas and intentions.
It was going to be strange going back to work on July 6th, but is going to be very much stranger now
