Saturday at Ren Fest

Mack, JP, my friend Phil and I all went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday. What a great day! Well, it was a mostly great day. Mack just wanted to go home. We stopped at Katz's for breakfast, where my meal was comped because I had a dirty coffee cup and a hair in my breakfast, and then they forgot my bacon on the second serving attempt of my breakfast. But the four of us had a good breakfast and managed to get the waitress to take a picture of us before we ran off to Ren Fest and wore ourselves out.

(Me, Mack, JP and Phil, after breakfast at Katz's)

On the way to the festival, there was a bad accident on the road just ahead of us that required life flight and two ambulances and probably numerous police cars and such. We only saw the helicopter and ambulances and had to wait a half hour for it to clear.

At the festival, Phil managed to acquire a pass for $10 instead of paying $21 at the gate, and JP bought Mack a $10 child's ticket at the gate and I let him have the other free pass I received. I think $20 for all four of us to get into the festival is a pretty good deal. Once inside, the light was so wonderful (about 10:30 a.m.), and Mack was so cute I just had to take a picture of him. This is one of the best pictures ever of Mack!

Shortly after getting inside the gate and walking around, we were approached from behind by a big dragon thing... Mack was in awe of it.

(It probably stood just at 8 feet tall when its neck was fully extended. It also could pull its neck in and be about 6 or 6.5 feet tall.)

After that, we unintentionally made our way over to where the animals were. Mack got to ride an elephant! That elephant was really friendly. While Mack and the other kids were getting loaded on, the elephant reached over with its trunk to where several parents including myself stood to take pictures. I got to pet the elephant's trunk! It was all bristly and rough. I'm not quite sure what I expected, but that was not it at all. Then it sent a hot blast of air from its trunk over several unsuspecting parents. Icky elephant breath!

We wandered after that, and shopped. We listened to musicians and watched the falconer's show. We listened to Mack whine about wanting to go home. *sigh* I did manage to get all decked out in an outfit which I was suckered in to buying. I have no make up on and this was about an hour before dusk, but here I am, in a [tight!] bodice that gave me cleavage up to my ears!

We left about 20 minutes before dusk, which is when they kick all the patrons out. On the way home, we stopped at Golden Corral for dinner which of course gave us all the fat and happies. After getting home, I happily collapsed into my bed and passed out.

We had a fantastic time yesterday. I am so glad I was able to go, and that my friends were able to go, too. Despite Mack's protests all day, he claims to have had a good time as well.
