Life and a couple of fic recs

I can't even believe it's been this long since I've posted!
It's been one heck of a year for my family. Full of good and bad.

We've moved. I never expected to move again(and I never want to again). Honestly, we were pretty content where we were. But then we were offered a chance to buy a place out of town with a tiny bit of land. There is enough work here to do for the rest of our lives. Haha! But it's beautiful and still close to town. My only complaint is, I have horrible internet, like we're talking slower than dial-up!

We lost both of our cats last spring, in a matter of a few days. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Mitch our old cat, we finally decided to put down. She had been sick for a while and we just couldn't let her suffer anymore. And, Orange Cat, our stray adopted us cat, someone poisoned.

Our new adopted us cat, showed up a few months later. Her name is Rupert, (I don't know why all our female cats end up with male names).  We keep saying she's the reincarnation of Mitch and Orange cat. She is the cuddliest, sweetest, and drooliest, stray I've ever had.

My daughter went to University this last fall. In the top five for the hardest things I've ever had to do- Dropping my kid off at school half-way across the country. As proud as we are of her going, leaving her there felt a little like abandonment. She has done so well her first year though. We couldn't be more proud of her and her choices.

I read a ton this summer but with everything going on, didn't keep track of which ones to rec. I usually dl to my ereader, which is part of the problem, if I don't bookmark 'til I've had a chance to read it, I find it hard to find them again.

So that's it in a nutshell on with the recs :D

This was part of the Oh Sam comment fic- one of the few that have caught my attention to read

In a House By the Sea, with Mermaids- By snickfic

This was just lovely. I really love the title. It captured my attention and made me think of quiet, sad things.
The story captured a bit of that feel. Although maybe not so much sad, more the quiet- which I really liked, especially as Sam is deaf in this and it just felt perfect. She has some beautiful imagery in this too. I really love a story that evokes this much atmosphere and does it simply.

This was absolutely heartwrenching. I read this months ago and knew then I had to rec it, even though it ripped my heart out and left me wrecked. Gorgeous story, well worth the messy crying. Don't read if you don't do death fics.
