Yup, still grateful for electronic means of communication

Specifically livejournal and email, in this case. Disasters such as bridges over the Mississippi collapsing in the place you grew up must have been infinitely more scary before. I had dinner with draconline last night, as she was in town for her internship (Bandar was delicious, thanks go to chenoameg for recommending it); it was lovely to see her. When she called me on the way in she asked if I had heard, and of course I hadn't, having been totally preoccupied with class and traveltime for the previous few hours. I tried calling my parents, but all cell service was down. Upon reaching home after dinner, I was highly relieved to find an email from my dad saying that all of my family members are fine, including my mom, who had apparently been driving on that stretch of road about 5 minutes before it happened, on her way to Orchestra Hall. I have many friends who live near the area, so it's been really good to see everyone's posts about being okay. Thank you all for checking in.

On the downside of electronic convenience, apparently my eBay account has been compromised, which follows on the heels of one of my credit cards having fraud charges on it. Grr. It'll all get sorted out, I'm sure, but it's annoying to have to deal with it right now, given that the coming week is going to be completely insane.

Now to panic about packing and moving, while somehow also getting all my TA work done. If any of the San Diego folk would be up for helping out with the actual moving portion either Tuesday or Wednesday evening, it would be much appreciated. Bribes in the form of food (or something else, if you'd prefer) offered.

family, friends, moving
