Two adventures in co-working:
One of the chefs put in her resignation in favour of moving back home to be with her family--which is weird but okay, her life--and announced that today was her last day. After sending out this e-mail to everyone, she went around HQ and gave everyone a white rose.
D= I feel this is backwards [as did everyone else], and it made me feel like a heel, even if I didn't know her that well [yeah, Accounting all in the kitchen all the time WOO].
The other is Dramallamatopia: Unnamed co-worker [UNCW] told me Daughter complained about pain last night, and, in parental fright, took Daughter to the ER. They told UNCW that there was no bad news--experiencing a heart attack* is rare in children, as they're more likely to experience a "spasm"--but Daughter was growing up.
Read: Daughter is getting Real Boobs and is starting her period.
Note, Daughter is NINE YEARS OLD.
I thought about mentioning the article I don't feel like looking up that describes the current generation of girls reaching sexual maturity at younger ages due to the increased sexual pervasiveness of society, but I didn't think it would help. I did point out that I, uh, "matured" sooner than my mother did [also ridiculously early by comparison, but not THAT ridiculous], but the underlying problem is that not only will younger sexual maturity enable younger parents, but when these girls DO wait to have kids, it's less likely they'll still be fertile when they're ready, if that doesn't happen until even after as young as thirty.
While I'm still pretty kid-phobic, I do recognize the place of reproduction in society, and this skews on the side of awful, trending toward young and not ready or older and ready but infertile. If we follow that slippery slope.
*I always remember "myocardial infarction" now, thanks to
Nancy Drew 9_9
So uh, yeah. Shit, I just remembered a co-worker-apportioned
king cake left in my desk drawer =p ...'cause all those extra calories are so important, ya know??
[yes, it's in Tupperware]
[[no, don't think I'll eat it anyway]]
