Who says the weather's a boring topic of conversation?

It's starting to smell seductively atumnal out there.

::breeeeeeeeeeeaathes in deep::

Aaahhh. Through the ever-present haze of I-5 CO2 emissions, I can smell rain and drying leaves, cool breezes and the right kind of clouds. Oh fall, how I have missed thee.

The first leaves have browned over the past few days of rain and cool weather we've been having. Having lived here for the whole of my 21 years, I know that this is a brief respite, and that summer will have its last hurrahs through September and into October - in fact, I'm counting on it for my mid-September backpacking trip.* But from now on, it will only be the warmth of Indian summer interspersed with spats of the rainy gray I've come again to love.

Don't get me wrong, summer's alright on occasion. But once a year is more than plenty.

Which is a complete turn-around from my SAD days (and I mean that in more ways than one). I see love of winter and fall as a sign of emotional and mental stability in myself.

Speaking of autumn, I'm taking a full 16 credits this year. o.o How'd that happen? I'm not taking any more classes than I was last spring at 14 credits - but my math and Spanish classes are both 5 credits now, as well as Chemistry. Then a yoga class - PE are all 1 credit. Frankly, I'm alright with 16 credits. It always seemed like cheating to call myself a full-time student at 12 credits (which is the bare minimum for FT). Now I'm like... a REAL full-time student.

*It's funny how, having lived somewhere so long, I know the weather patterns like clockwork. There are a few hot days in March, but it's always raining for my birthday. The rain warms through April. May is sunny and warm, and the first two weeks of June are stormy and chill. July is a fitful month, cloudy, but sometime in July or August you can count on at least a few weeks of sun and true summer heat. There's this spat of rain in the middle of August. There's a solid week of gray skies at the start of September followed by a month of hot sunshine with cold nights. It starts to rain again just in time for Halloween, and doesn't stop until March, unless it snows somewhere in early January. Bitter cold persists from November to Februrary. Deviations from this pattern are rare, and some, such as this year's dismal cold and rainy month of May, are cause for Eyebrows of Concern(tm).
