I'm not liking that ski jumper guy and those mountains in the upper right corner.  The mountains look disturbingly like the snow piles outside my front door.

I need a good, trashy, easy-to-read airplane novel.   Something entertaining that will make the time go by fast and that will not require too much concentration as I will be interrupted every three minutes by my children.

Anybody read the Sookie Stackhouse books that "True Blood" is based on?  Would they fit the bill?

Any other suggestions?

I have decided I prefer Goodreads to Shelfari.  They have about the same functionality, but Goodreads has a cleaner, more elegant interface and -- big selling point for me -- you can leave comments for your friends on individual books, not just on their profile page.  It makes it a lot easier to have discussions about specific books.  So come find ( Read more... )

So I just finished reading Breaking Dawn...

Well, that was kind of a slog. I don't think any of the books are great literature, of course, but I've enjoyed all of them except this one. It could have been told in 300 pages instead of 700 and maybe I wouldn't have gotten so bored. Whether I would have liked it or not... well...

Just finished reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.  It gave me nightmares and the ick factor was high (for me, anyway... I'm a tad prudish, okay?), but I loved the concept.

Rowling seems to have been taking some lessons from the LOST Producers' School of Finale Writing.  The body count was rather higher than necessary.  I was more annoyed than sad about it and it took me out of the story.

I have a goal today -- to sit down and read a book.  Not as something to keep my mind occupied while I eat lunch or to kill time waiting for an appointment or in the kiss and ride line, but as a worthwhile activity all by itself with time and attention devoted to it.
